With apologies to Xerobull - let's have the real thread here which is this - what's better - thrash metal or death metal? Thrash metal bands include: Metallica (at least the first 3 albums), Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Exodus, Testament, Kreator, Death Angel, Dark Angel, Overkill, etc plus some Sepultura Death metal bands include: Death (pretty much the standard bearers), Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Possessed, etc. I will easily go with thrash metal although I do like Death a lot (they are in my top 10 favorite heavy metal bands).
Kaatayra is Brazilian Black Metal. They got acoustic black metal album from last year or two that's pretty good and different. Lluvia - Summoning the Eclipse Mexican Black Metal playlist.
Thrash over Death. I like the guitar and heavy bass guitar lines from Death Metal but the incoherent screaming just irritates me, and the frenetic drums are too much for my taste. Still, some occasional good stuff that I will listen to. Death is a badass band, and I like Gorjira a lot (even though some may say they're not a pure Death metal band) I like the tempo of Thrash much better and the vocals are understandable. The music is a little dated but it's still easy to pop in early Metallica and rock, hard.
The answer is Death, but the real answer is that it's all good and it just depends on what you're wanting at that specific time.
I love these comparison threads, but I can't say I'm much a fan of either genre and not sure if I would really know the difference. Maybe when I was younger. i guess I'd prefer thrash based on the examples above. My current metal tolerance only extends to crossover groups like Mastodon and Baroness. I'm also a superfan of Deafheaven, who are kind of a mix of death metal (mainly the vocals) and shoegaze, but they're kind of off in their own world. Converge is another great "metal" band, but I don't think they quite fit into either genre above..
I love them both equally, but I've been listening to more of the early 90s style of death metal lately. I just love their heavy-thick guitar tone and the complexity of the song structures. I've been playing guitar for the last 20yrs and death metal is more fun and challenging to play and then any other genre. Also, not all death metal is about screaming (that's an insult to say that). The vocals vary from high-pitched to low guttural and in between. There's always something for everyone, even though it is an acquired taste for some people. My favorite death metal bands: Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, Disgorge, Obituary, Defeated Sanity, Death, Athiest, Cynic, Cannibal Corpse, Asphyx, Brutality, Monstrosity and Morbid Angel. My first love is thrash...this is what gotten me into metal in the first place. My favorite thrash band: Early Metallica, Early Slayer, Overkill, Sepultura, Anthrax, Testament, D.R.I, Dark Angel, Exodus, Megadeth, Death Angel and Znowhite.
