the best thing about conn's is their management is dumb as dirt. like someone said before, it's easy to pull a fast one over on them.
I used to like Circuit City, but some of their prices can really suck. Kinda like CompUSA for cumputer stuff. I like the no-hassle at Best Buy. I rarely need their advice, I just need a good price. And everyone pushes the maint plans now. I always check prices at Frys before purchasing anything electronic. As for Conns, it is probably the only electronics store that I have never set foot in. I've always sensed what it was like from the outside and never had any desire to shop there.
It seems like they carry pretty much the same stuff as Best Buy. If their prices really suck, which I've never seen, then you should actually save more since they give you 110% of the difference if you find a lower price somewhere else.
Best Buy destroys Circuit City in my opinion, but I do research before I make a purchase and don't have to ask sales clerks questions.
CC has a very good pricematch policy. When I bought my Sony WEGA last year, they had no problem calling up Fry's and doing the PM for 110% of the difference. Ended up leaving with a brand new 32" WEGA for $590.
The only time I go to Circuit City is when I only need something for like a few days then I can return it. Their return policy is so ridiculous. I've used their policy to use wirless notebook adapters free for a week, get a PS2 keyboard for a week to enter names in NCAA 2004, and to get a PS2 lightgun for a few days when I rented a shooting game.
Except for escape clauses, right? (you're referring to CompUSA, right?) I just bought a video board from them for $149 (because their store is close to my home), less $10 for a manufacturer's rebate. The NET price from Frys for the same board this weekend (after in store and manufacturer rebates) was $49. That's ridiculous, and it's only one, recent example. When I bought a digital camera from them, I had my wife checking online prices. Their price was marked $30 higher, but when I told them what I could buy it for, they determined that the price had actually dropped and they had inadvertantly failed to correct the price tag.
I've found most of those places are pretty icky. Conn's is by far the worst...Fry's ain't that great (the prices are, but the salespeople can be slappable). I don't want to be at a Circuit City after dark...it's like the salesmen there turn into rabid beasts once the sun goes down. The only one i can semi-tolerate is Best Buy. They quite often annoy me, too, but their salespeople take the "buzz off" hint better than most. I guess it's because they don't get commission. I seriously have to watch what I wear when I go shopping in those places. I basically have to dress like a nun. Now, when I go to Home Depot, the lower-cut and shorter the better. It's hard to get help in those places, so I've found I must use the girls to the fullest of my advantage. Problem is, I can't beat the employees off me with a paint stick (I've tried this before!).
