Barkley was just interviewed by Jim Gray during some celebrity golf tourney at Lake Tahoe. Here's what he said:

"I'm leaning heavily toward that (not playing). I haven't made a final decision. I don't think I can play well. Right now I'm just working out to get in shape.

Michael's his own man. If he wants to comeback I will support him. I hope he doesn't but if he comes back I'm going to support him. But right now I don't think there is no way I can play."

Speak for yourself Francis3422! [IMG] Seriously, Charles mind changes from day-to-day. This is the same guy who said he would retire at the end of every year for like 5 or 6 years straight, what would be different about UNRETIRING! [IMG]

Hopefully Chuckles isn't serious. I think he can still play and put up fairly good numbers. But I agree with RocksMillenium. Charles does change his mind often. I look forward to seeing his new game and attitude(you know you loved the technicals!! [IMG]) in Washington next season.

I'm pretty sure Barkley's "fat @ss" can still destroy 90% of the so-called PFs in the NBA today! You don't think Barkley could outplay the so-called top PFs in last year's conference finals like Tyrone Hill, Horace Grant and Scott Williams? Tim Duncan and Chris Webber were some of the few quality PFs in the NBA playoffs last year that did anything. And guys like Barkley, Rodman, Dream, can grab 8 to 15 boards in their sleep.

I really hope that the round mound does not come back. He left the game in a good way, after he said he was done, I love to watch charles play but enough is enogh. I am sure he could preform well but he would be no where near the superstar he was in philly and Phoenix.

    can he still dunk???

Please. First off, Hakeem had a great year last year and only got like 7 boards a game. Second, Barkley couldn't score on anybody the last time he played. He would hold the ball, pray for a double team (even though he didn't deserve one), and pass the ball out. If teams single-covered Charles, he was useless, because he had to actually try to score on a defender. Plus his defense has always been non-existent.

I think Barkley wants to come back.

But only to play with Jordon....in the hopes of getting that ring.

...But if you saw the little exchange he had with Jordon during the draft, I don't think Jordon wants his help. If Jordon does come back, I don't think he's looking to put together all-oldies team.

I think CB4 will come back so he can go out on his own terms, not playing 1 final game on a bad leg after almost an entire year on the IR.
Also just because MJ may not want him doesn't mean he won't have a home. The LAkers are losing Ho Grant to the Magic and the Lakers need a PF. Charles needs a ring.

Jeez, Freak thanks for the great insight. Dream had a "great" year? And Barkley had to pray for a double team?
Look at the stats for Dreams "Great" year and Barkley's pray for a Double team, cause I can't score final year:

    CB4 Dream
    Min/Game 31 26.5
    FG% 47.75 49.82
    Ft% 64.55 62.12
    Rb/Gm 10.45 7.43
    Ast/Gm 3.15 1.24
    Stl/Gm 0.70 1.21
    PPG 14.45 11.88

Wow you are totally right! No wait, Dream played well for less than 1/2 a year once he though he could show off for the playoffs teams who were intereseted in making a trade.
To say Charles was useless if not double teamed is news to me. I think most teams double team a player because they know they can't stop him one-on-one.
Maybe we should send a note to Rudy telling him that next year when Shaq is schooling Cato/Collier that under no circumstances should we ever double team. Shaq is such a good post passer that the last thing we want him to do is to pass the ball.

4chuckie -- I meant Hakeem had a great year for Hakeem, considering his age and production the year before, not a great year compared to everyone else. As for Barkley, the teams that were able to neutralize him were the ones that did not double him. The teams that did double him were not being smart, IMO. Not sure what your point is about Shaq though.

I assume that if you can score in a double team you're a pretty good scorer! But saying Barkley couldn't score without double teams isn't necessarily true. His last year in the league, with the Rockets going more and more away from the post up game and implementing Steve Francis, Barkley averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds and shot 47.7% from the field. Considering the fact that Dream could still contribute, and Francis and eventually Mobley were starting to produce that was pretty good. Keep in mind Barkley wasn't completely healthy at the time, the knee that eventually gave out after falling wrong had bothered him for a while, and hampered his mobility. Barkley was going to sit out a game, but decided to play the Philly game since it would have been his last game there.
