Finishing up the Faith No More 4 pack: Faith No More - King For a Day, Fool For a Lifetime Faith No More - Album of the Year I have to confess that I really haven't listened to that much these 2 albums but they were actually pretty solid. King For a Day... is especially good.
Scorching Steve Vai guitar solo at 5:40 mark...that's Ginger Baker on drums. Both are on previous song posted earlier as well.
Plus, that opening is Ryuichi Sakamoto who was on the other song as well with Tony Williams on drums. All-star 1985!
Yes, PiL's 5th studio album, "Album" or "Compact Disc" or whatever you want to call it was pretty much John Lydon with a cavalcade of heavyweights (Steve Vai, Ginger Baker, Tony Williams, Bernie Worrell, Ryuchi Sakamoto, etc.). And you can thank Bill Laswell for this. He produced the album and played bass on most of the tracks. Keith Levene was long gone and Martin Atkins had also left (Jah Wobble was out after "Metal Box"). Drugs really wrecked this band and caused people to not be able to get along with each other. But this transformed PiL from a very interesting, innovative post-punk outfit to something more commercial. After this album, Lydon recruited a whole new group and had several post-punk veterans in the group including most notably Bruce Smith (of the Pop Group and the Slits) on drums and John McGeoch (yes that John McGeoch) of Magazine and Siouxsie and the Banshees on guitar. This version of the band actually lasted the longest of the original PiL years. Granted they didn't come close to releasing anything as exciting or innovative as the first 3 albums but by this point Lydon was more interested in taking his band into a dance-like and commercial direction. I will say that "Seattle" is my all-time favorite PiL song even though the album it came from wasn't one that I listen to very often.
2nd half of The Who 4 pack: The Who - Who's Next The Who - The Who by Numbers I would have normally slotted Quadrophenia in the last slot but I hadn't listened to by numbers in awhile and it is a very underrated album.
Starting another 4 pack (I plan on doing 20 artists here) - this one with Pink Floyd - first half: Pink Floyd - Meddle Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
2nd half of the Pink Floyd 4 pack: Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd - Animals I don’t know if I am going to continue doing these 4 packs (I still have 17 left, lol). I may switch over to the newest stuff: Old school punk Hardcore punk Post punk Post hardcore Noise rock Emo Math rock Post punk revival
Listening to a INXS Kick, and now Shaboo Shoobah, for the first time maybe ever on something other than headphones, earbuds that I can never get the volume just right with, or crappy car speakers from back in the day. (Got some new studio monitors for Xmas.) I have to say, they sound so much better this way. I need to do way more of this.
