Stevie Nicks is inarguably the best musician of the 3. Her top work doesn't take a back seat to very many people, male or female. Joan Jett is easily the most attractive when she wanted to be. She spent almost her entire career sporting the grungy look, which was sexy in it's own way. She covered dirty deeds, and she is movie star beautiful in that video. I'll go with Stevie overall.
I'll just add for what it's worth - Neil Giraldo has been Pat Benatar's long-serving musical partner since 1979 and her spouse since 1982. Maybe she would have still been as big as she was without him but I doubt it. Stevie Nicks is very talented, little question about that, but she also benefited from a partnership with Lindsey Buckingham and the other members of Fleetwood Mac (most notably Christine McVie). Although I ranked Joan Jett last of the three, she really didn't have the advantage of a musical partner or even foil like the others had. Maybe that is why she isn't as enduring but I do admire her for what she's done...she had to do most of it by herself.
Fleetwood Mac, of course. A much different band that their previous incarnation with Peter Green on lead guitar. Strictly a blues band back then. I saw them at the Music Hall back in the day. Stevie had a major impact on the band. When she started out, she sang like she was still learning how, but got better, obviously. She wrote some of their best songs. As for more serious "female blues and rock," emphasis on the blues, Bonnie Raitt is more my style, or Austin's Carolyn Wonderland. Here's some Ms. Wonderland below: Here's Bonnie doing "Give it Up or Let Me Go" sometime in the '70's:
i was about to post something similar to this, but manny said it better. of those 3 id go with stevie. but the correct answer is actually kate bush. edit: the correcter answer is joni mitchell.
pat benatar seems the odd one out. someone like grace slick or patti smith would be more comparable to the other two.
She's from Houston. Played Last Concert Cafe every Wednesday for a long time in the 90's. I know she relocated.
The thread was about 3 particular singers, not the best or favorite singer female singer. I love Lennox, one of my all-time favorites, but she should not be in this thread unless we are changing the original question.
Stevie hits my soul. but I fantasized about Pat when I was younger. Looking back, Stevie was better looking also.
80's kid. Huge crush on Pat. Never saw her live. Love Stevie and FWM, saw them a couple times. Saw Joan Jett a few years back playing at River City Music festival. Funny seeing the Joan Jett crowd partying and dancing with the Suicidal Tendencies & NIN crowds. Musical edge to Stevie but I like them all in their own ways.
