Team Canada building up an early lead against Team USA in the Gold Medal Women's hockey match. So far Team Canada looks like they are dominating the game.
This is why I always say that we don't know what you would do if you weren't cheating. She fell apart. They almost all do. Ben Johnson. Marion Jones. And for me, Barry Bonds would have been a shell of what he was too. Sad part is, one day the morality line will move, but it doesn't change that you played against the rules of the time and it gave you an unfair advantage. Skater down.
Every Olympics the US overhypes a star to be a face of the games and then the athlete just has a complete meltdown -- this time around the prize goes to Michaela Shiffrin. One of the biggest mental breakdowns I can recall.
Thank you... Ive been saying this throughout the Olympics. I hate her interviews and how much face time shes getting.
Here's my Olympic conspiracy theory. Kamila Valieva had a terrible free skate that took her out of medal contention. Because she's not on the podium means that the medal ceremonies won't be held up. A Russian skater won the Gold and another Russian skater won the silver, both skated before her. The Russian coaches told her to literally take a fall to allow Team Russia to still win the event and get medals.
This might be D&D territory but if any athlete should be competing under a different flag it is Kamila Valieva. She has and continues to be used by her coaches and the Russian Skate Federation. Somehow though I get the feeling they aren't going to let her go. Also apparently the Russian press and public is rallying around her which is good but unless they also push for change in their own sports federation she and other athletes are just going to be used. It sounds like they are rallying around her as another part of Russian grievance at the West and international community. My guess is she will end up another propaganda piece for Putin.
All three of those Russian girls looked like they were made in a creepy underground lab -- odd combination of extremely thin, but also muscular with power to spin quad tricks no other woman can land in competition. Seems likely they are all doped up on some sort of bizarre Russian ped cocktail.
No doubt they are going to be under a lot of scrutiny. As far as their figures I didn't find anything unusual about them. Maybe because I'm around athletes a lot I see a lot of young women with figures like that.
So anyway Men's and Women's Curling teams stunk it up. Disappointed. I suspect we will have different skips in 4 years. Women's team especially They got off to a good start it seemed and then really fell apart.
These mass starts are pretty wild. I'm glad the Olympics have been adding more head to head matchups rather than just time trials.
