Yes I was going to mention that in my post but there are 2 exceptions 1) the team was much less talented having shed harden and Covington and the goal was to try to get vets traded by showing them off (tucker and dipo) 2) wall was not looking to be a pg that helped others. He was looking to be a player who did it all on his own to show the world he was back.
Harden made a transition to PG in a spam of several years playing alongside Lin and Beverley. Playing with Beverley, an all-out defense guy, it even helped Harden migrate to primary ballhandler. Also, we now know Harden is top 30 all-time NBA player and even him took at least 5 years to "become a PG". That being said, KPJ not only hasn't proved to be nowere near as smart as Harden, but also the scenario is completely different: a bunch of young guys with potential that may implode if you don't get them involved. Meaning insisting with KPJ at this stage to run the point, you put in jeopardy the development of the rest of the team, and our joy to watch it.
Would be great for KPJ snd greens development. I really hope to have him as 6th man next season. I really want to try to be competitive next season for a play in game
Was never a fan of him, but damn he showed me the type of game we need from a vet PG! If he keeps up this level of enthusiasm and effort, I'm for adding him to the team. Really didn't expect that level of play, nor the leadership/mentorship/cheerleading he delivered last night.
I saw Green and Tate make their initial moves, kick it back to Shroeder if it wasn't there , and actually move to an open area because there was a chance they'd get it back ... Felt good to see so I know it felt good for them to experience it .. lol
Dennis the German menace: “Everyone came up to me after the game and said, we’ve never had fun like that before” Gordon was like it's been 85 years since I put up 24 shots. Fun fun fun.
I mean, if this is true, its not the best look for KPJ... But, as pleasantly surprised ive been with KPJ's improvement... its not his fault. Look at the makeup of this squad, excluding KPJ and Wood. Green, JayGup, KMJ, Tate, Alpi, Garry Bird... all these guys, whether they can hit a 3 or not, are very capable "on the move" players or players that benefit from more motion offense (eg. Alpi). CWood and KPJ more naturally gravitate towards one on one, spread and kick type offense. Both styles can work wonders in the NBA... but KPJ and CWood aren't really good enough to be the focal points of an iso spread offense that's really good. Which, no surprise, is another example of just how bad the coaching is, imo. Does anyone really think Schroeder was given any plays, told what we do, etc beyond a few simple things and otherwise just go do what you do? He's been in there for what one, two practices max? The entire difference in the flow of the offense was because one player ran it his way instead of the other way. And we're not talking about a great player, or even a way that was crazy cool. He just made quick decisions, probed and passed, kept things moving, etc. Not complex. The offense seemed to always "run better" when DJ was in as well... same concept. So even though KPJ has gotten better, his assist numbers have improved, his shooting has way improved, etc.. there's just not much of a flow to the offense when he's in charge. Even the difference in the speed when both KPJ and JG are on the floor in terms of how fast the ball comes up the court. KPHJ is more of a walker, slow and steady figure this out, get him with one move. JG pushes fast, looks for a move or PnR, then moves it along. I am NOT advocating for JG to run point, just highlighting the difference. The dilemma is what to do moving forward. For one, I'd love to see a lot more Nix at the pro level. He strikes me as a more natural and cerebral PG, but hard to see with such limited time so far. For two, I'd REALLY REALLY prefer to see a starting line of Schroeder, JG, KPJ at 3. I'm not trying to bash KPJ... I think he would improve a ton playing the 3 as well... especially since i do think his court vision has been forced to improve. He's now a very solid 3 point shooter. Imagine if he was also being setup for open looks. Just my two cents...
I always liked Schoder's game, but I never realize how well he runs the offense. He's like a baby J Kidd or Mark Jackson out there. I think our young guys will benefit from his presence on the court. He does a good job of directing traffic and keeping guys active and in the right place.
Just when I think I have seen it all we got people up in here wanting to sign Schroeder long term and comparing him to J Kidd or mark jackson. WTF people? And I like Schroeder but he is not the right guy for this team right now and this is peek Schroeder wait until the other shoe drops. There is a reason he was just traded for Theis and the Celtics have been on a tear.
KPJ is John Stockton to some ppl here. He gets an assist and he' a pg. KPJ is the wrong pg for any team, he is a SG.
I hope that we get to see him start at the 3 with Schroder here at the end of the season. I don't think they will keep Schroder, but if they have the opportunity to get a PG like him in a Gordon trade, it would be nice to know if KPG would be viable in that SF role.
