They are constrained by roster spots. Those are limited, you add 3 more you are forced to make moves you might not want to make.

The reason that Wood & EG weren't moved is no team was offering picked beyond this draft.

There is no harm in punting when you can get the same type of compensation in the offseason OR at the next trade deadline and you also have the ability to use them in sign and trade scenarios.

All while landing those future picks you coveted rather than being forced to consolidate assets or make other decisions you may not be ready for.

This is a situation where time is on your side.

I don't understand why we acquired him. He's 28, we're not trying to win now - if Christian Wood doesn't fit into the long term plan, how does he? What's the point of having him here other than to worsen our lottery pick?

I don't get what this organization is trying to do. It made sense to trade Gordon and Wood for future draft compensation - no one was willing to give up a 2023 or later 1st round pick? No one?

As a fan, it's frustrating because we want to know the plan. We're the fans. Morey at least told us here's what he is trying to do. We might not agree with it, but he respected the fans and the role they played. He understood our value.

I am not sure Tillman and Co feel the same way. Because I don't understand the plan based on the decisions being made, and yes, it does get frustrating when its the team you've followed for nearly 40 years.

    WTF does that mean?

    2021/22 Pick-n-Roll (Ball Handler)
    Player................. frequency......ppp.............NBA percentile

    Schroder....................35.7%...........0.89.....................62.5

    ok not great.....but compare to

    Porter Jr.....................42.1%............0.76.....................33.6
    J Green.......................28.0%............0.70.....................24.6
    Tate.............................6.4%..............0.70.....................23.6

    Augustin.........................................dropped to near 15.0
(not exactly inspiring Silas to keep thru next year)

Of course the Rockets would have to re-sign him; but it's not about
winning now. More about can he help the Rockets win next year?

Olynyk was used the same way last season. But his price tag was too high.
Let's see if Schroder ends up the same way.

You don't want any vets next season? Even Eric Gordon (past 30 y/o)?

This sounds like some random startup silicon valley BS line. Now, I don't know what we have planned for the future, though I do think we have a bright one. But that quote is completely pointless and says nothing at all.

So it would make sense if you traded EG, but if you don't, why do you need Schroder?

Well it's reported that the Rockets didn't want anymore late first round picks.

Since the Rockets have about 9 players with so few years of experience....
    It makes sense
    1) Porter jr
    2) Green
    3) Mathews
    4) J Christopher
    5) Tate
    6) Kenyon
    7) Sengun
    8) Garuba
    9) Nix
    10) new draft pick Jabari/Banchero/Chet

So not a lot of room for more raw players like Garuba. I guess that's the thinking.

Wood 27 next year. Rule use to be NBA players peak at around 28 years
    of age.

    So why not Schroder?

Oh, I get it! I am a very good developer, happily living my life, when I see our Country going in the wrong direction (to put it mildly). Against all odds, I decide to run for President & continue to run my business-very legal & very cool, talked about it on the campaign trail…

Rockets don't want any 2022 late 1st round draft picks, but anything beyond that is still an asset you can use.

If your core is 4 19 year olds and a 22 year old who probably need at least 3-4 years to mature into contending type players, you only need one vet guard to take them under his wing. Considering you are drafting another one or two young guys, it makes sense to stockpile future year draft picks to use in a trade for players to complement the core as you see how it develops vs getting another late first round pick now when you are already struggling to get PT for your young guys.

Just another loser mentality individual on this board. Detest people like you who get angry at picking up a very good talent in Schroder. Yes, the same guy who almost single handedly beat us with Chris Paul in the OKC playoff series. This team needs more talent not less talent. Rest easy though as I hear he is being bought out.

I hear you, and I have plenty of questions as well.

But as a GM or Coach you have to try to put all these young
players in a position to succeed. Silas was successful
Running PnR and having most things branch off that in Dallas.

So a point guard that can run PnR as the ball handler is paramount
to the success of Green, Sengun, Tate, Kenyon, Mathews, Wood, Garuba.
And now add Chet or Banchero or Jabari Smith. *Well Sengun can post up
but that's still seen as not so efficient.

Coaches run a scheme that they feel comfortable running or one
that has given them success before. I've noted how the Mavs scored
high with Roll Men and Ball Handlers thru PnR. Cutters as well.
Silas was failed at the point of attack as Porter and Green were so
    raw at it.

Next year the Rockets need to be in better position not to let
down Banchero/Chet/Jabari Smith and they have the head of
the spear more or less taken care of. Ivey or TyTy might be
much of the same as this year?

and yet james gets bashed for forcing his way out. If you are trying to win a title, this isnt the place to be.

Why the hell would they pass on any first rounder for Gordon head scratching. If Stone feels Gordon’s worth anything more than the #18 pick in the draft then he may be overvaluing him a bit

You need veterans on a young team, you just do. If you don't have veterans on a young team then you are severely hurting their development. I think one thing I am the most about Dennis is what kind of work ethic will he help instill in the young guards. I remember his game took a step up when he played with cp3 couple years ago ( another example of why young players need veterans). Hopefully he can share the lessons he learned from him.

I don't think they passed on a first rounder per SE. They passed on a first rounder this year. Nothing wrong with saying you don't want to start off next year with 3 more rookies on a team with 4 rookies this year and 2 2nd year players. They have to be in a win mode next year bc they do not have their 1st round pick so sucking will get them nothing (thanks morey)
