Porter is not playing SF - that pipe dream has gone, he is our PG, and will be for the future, unless Nix can beat him out.

That 1 - 15 start certainly does not seem like that's his best skill.

 

One could say its a bad idea to judge a vet who's had a successful career on many winning teams off of limited minutes in a very limited amount of games, on one of the worst most discombobulated teams in the league

Hold out Schroder until the deadline past for buyouts. Don't give Lakers anything, fk that franchise

 

Glad Theis is no longer on the team. I wonder who we could've realistically signed this past offseason instead of him. Maybe Caruso? Would not have wanted to re-sign Olynyk long-term.

 

i agree, the worse they do, the better for us, we don't want to help them at all. They may get desperate enough this summer to still make that wall or gordon trade.

and ...... our defense was OK . Think about that . Next to rookie jalen green and vaunted defender Christian wood .

that was kpj / Tate / theis holding things down AND we had the fact our offense was crap working against us (points off turnovers and not having score pressure)

I kinda liked theis as a backup to sengun / someone who might be able to play with him for limited minutes . Is it what you want to be paying for while rebuilding ? No . But sengun would run into foul trouble and theis is a pro

To me clock starts ticking on stone heavily after this season . If we aren’t looking good coming out of the draft / by the trade deadline next year I’d axe him ...

 

To me, the Theis trade was more of an after thought. Sloppy seconds last minute deal.

Their priority was to fill the guard spot. It's possible Stevens spoke with Stone on Gordon, maybe Stone wanted a pick in future years... whatever the reason it didn't pan out. So Celtics took the Spurs deal and got Derrick White. That deal was done first before the Theis deal. Derrick and Ime had the 2019 Team USA connection, there's familiarity there.

Celtics out: Josh Richardson (6'5" SG/SF - 7th year), Romeo Langford (6'4" SG - 3rd year) , a 2022 first-round pick and a future pick swap to San Antonio
Celtics In: Derrick White 6'4" (PG/SG), 5th year defensive guard.

By getting White as their new backup PG (still behind Marcus Smart). Schroder became redundant and unnecessary.

Celtics out: Schroder (6'3" guard), Enes (6'10" center), Fernendo (6'9" center).
Celtics In: Theis.

• Celtics was looking to duck the tax this year. After both deals, they are currently under (barely ~$2.6 mil cap space).
• They swapped out to two bad centers for a mediocre one in Theis. (slight upgrade).
• They have 10 active guys currently, so they can sign two more fringe guys to get to the minimum of 12 players.
  
• Rockets got a few calls on Theis' contract, easier to deal than Wood, so if Theis doesn't work out for Stevens this year, Celtics can still trade Theis in future years.

The Celtics upgraded maybe slightly. But what Stevens did do is cleared the deck. Removed bunch of bench guys that wasn't panning out. 3rd year guys like Lanford can't help Celtic's two J's right now. They got a 5th year guy who's more polished, especially defensively. Ime can even play a defensive backcourt of Marcus Smart and Derrick White.

If 3rd year talent isn't panning out, Steven decides not to hold onto them. KPJ is better than those guys, but it's a cautionary tale for Stone, on KPJ's re-up.

Celtic's guard need was fulfilled by Spurs (instead of the Rockets). After which resulted Celtics to do additional clean-up, in which case they sent Schroder over, because they didn't need him anymore. So the Theis deal to Celtics is less about Theis' talent, abeit better front court depth after Horford, it's more about getting rid of Schroder, opening roster spots, and ducking the tax.

 

We should buy him out, if he is on the Lakers it doesn't hurt us at all.

I don’t know anything about his contract but maybe he can be shipped back to them in a draft day trade. If they lose out this year, they maybe more willing to cave to Lebrons demands.

 

You must have Richardson confused. Dude been in the league for a while. Much longer than 3 years. He started with Miami. This is his fifth or sixth teams he’s about to be on. He’s been in the league for at least 6th years
