lol sorry bro. this is the worst time to go shopping for a used car. check again in a year. thanks! https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CUSR0000SETA02
My wife works for a Toyota dealership here in Oregon. She shares (buyer) nightmare stories of how much used cars are going for. Her dealership is so low on inventory, they've resorted to selling cars that they would usually pass on (cars they would normally send to auction for the independent sellers to pick up). Be very careful and do not expect a good deal. This is truly a seller's market right now.
It's actually crazy, but I've read several stories of people paying more for a used car than a new model of the same car. It's like nobody does any research and just wanders out there and starts accepting whatever price is thrown at them. I mean, I get it if you just need to have a car and have no choice, but damn. In your case, unless you absolutely need a car, my suggestion is probably to wait, but it could take several months before car prices come down to "normal" levels.
American and Japanese Spoiler A Camaro back in 2015, a Subaru last year They were not in Houston though, picked up the Chevy in Austin and had the Subaru sent from an out of state location From my experience, the online price was real which seems to be rare from many inquiries with other dealerships, all the incentives shown were ones everybody qualified for, when I got my Camaro is was the cheapest listed SS camaro in the country on autotrader and 5k below msrp, we waited for the catch but it never came. On the other hand I helped my mom buy a Mazda from a random OKC dealership this year and it was a bad experience.
Im looking to buy a full size SUV, thinking 08+ Toyota Sequoia or Lexus GX 470. Planning to sell both my cars to do so.
I see some Nissans/ Fords/Kias (Looking for SUVs) I am using a Corolla as a rental . .. and that d*mn thing is far far too low to the ground Rocket River
It’s worse for used cars. With some luck you can find new cars for MSRP… Used cars are selling for what they were worth 2-3 years ago or even more than what they were worth new… The “used is cheaper than new” doesn’t apply right now.
Subaru what? Outback? Forester? I'm liking Subaru more and more, but would like to hear anecdotes from people who actually own them, about how they are.
Again (from above)...my wife works for a dealership...it's actually two dealerships...Toyota and a few blocks away they have a Subaru dealership. At the beginning of 2020, we had to replace a Sequoia that my daughter wrecked. I considered a Rav4 and Subaru Forester. Luckily, my wife knows the techs well and asked them about both of those cars...and their response was...avoid the Rav4 and Tacomas. They both have had problems that require frequent visits to the mechanics. She asked about the Forester (and Subarus in general)...and was told that they are ok...but severely underpowered and do have occasional issues like the Rav4 and Tacoma. We ended up spending more than we wanted and rolled out with a 4Runner. Solid car with four wheel capability. Never regretted not buying the Subaru or Rav4. Just IMO. Others may have differing stories.
