    East Regional
1 - Stanley Kubrick vs. 16 Amy Heckerling
    8 - Cecil B. DeMile vs. 9 Victor Fleming
5 - Sidney Lumet vs. 12 Nancy Meyers
    4 - Orson Welles vs. 13 M Night Shyamalan
6 - Ang Lee vs. 11 Alfonso Cuaron
3 - Ridley Scott vs. 14 Tony Scott - Tony Scott is seeded to low.
7 - Steven Soderbergh vs. 10 John Hughes
2 - Coen Brothers vs. 15 Danny Boyle

    Midwest Regional
1 - Steven Spielberg vs. 16 George Cukor
8 - George Lucas vs. 9 Ron Howard
5 - Clint Eastwood vs. 12 Mike Nichols-I don't know how Nichols can be a 12th seed and Eastwood a 5th seed, Nichols is a much better director and his films have legs.
4 - David Fincher vs. 13 Roman Polanski
6 - Tim Burton vs. 11 Spike Lee
3 - James Cameron vs. 14 William Friedkin- Freidkin 14th? are you kidding me?
7 - Frank Capra vs. 10 Ingmar Bergman
2 - Quentin Tarantino vs. 15 George Miller - Another terrible seed.

I am not knocking you the poster, this was a fun exercise, but I think the seeding could use a major tweak

It was absolutely criminal that Quentin Tarantino was pitted against George Miller in round one.

    East Regional
    1 - Stanley Kubrick
vs. 16 Amy Heckerling - Kubrick was the master
8 - Cecil B. DeMile vs. 9 Victor Fleming - Famous epic directors but their films aged like cottage cheese. I'm writing in Kurosawa here.
    5 - Sidney Lumet
vs. 12 Nancy Meyers - Is this a joke? Meyers has value to the film industry, but not in directing
    4 - Orson Welles
vs. 13 M Night Shyamalan - Welles, and it would have been an even bigger win if the guy hadn't had so many issues getting finance for his films
6 - Ang Lee vs. 11 Alfonso Cuaron - Cuaron made two of my favorite films of the millenium (Children of Men and Y Tu Mama Tambien). Lee not so much.
3 - Ridley Scott vs. 14 Tony Scott - Ridley Scott has made many great and memorable films. The most memorable bit of film Tony Scott did was that volleyball scene in Top Gun. While that is indeed a remarkable feat, it's mostly noticeable for its chutzpah rather than directorial competence. So my choice is clear.
    7 - Steven Soderbergh
vs. 10 John Hughes - Soderbergh because like Crowe, Hughes was a better writer.
    2 - Coen Brothers
vs. 15 Danny Boyle - Tricky, because I love Danny Boyle's films. A lot. But the Coen Brothers have been so consistent.

    Midwest Regional
1 - Steven Spielberg vs. 16 George Cukor - Spielberg
8 - George Lucas vs. 9 Ron Howard - Oh dear, neither of these guys can direct worth a damn, although Howard can be serviceable (plus my mom and wife love Parenthood). Stlll, I'm writing in Francois Truffaut
    5 - Clint Eastwood
vs. 12 Mike Nichols - Not a huge fan of either, but neither deserves to be overwritten by a third party. Eastwood by a grimace.
4 - David Fincher vs. 13 Roman Polanski - Jesus you're making me vote for someone who raped an underaged girl. But this guy is maybe the best thriller director ever, and even The Fearless Vampire Killers can't diminish his filmography too much.
    6 - Tim Burton
vs. 11 Spike Lee - Tim Burton. Spike Lee reminds me of Oliver Stone in his self-importance. But
3 - James Cameron vs. 14 William Friedkin - 2 assholes who should be living in obscurity. I'm tempted to write in Werner Herzog here, simply because he dealt with one of the biggest assholes in history (Klaus Kinski) and survived. If I had a gun to my head, I'm voting for Friedkin because the (a) French Connection is maybe one of the best action films of all time and (b) the
    fried chicken fellatio scene
in Killer Joe got some of the most hilarious audience response I've ever seen in person. I'm not a huge fan of Cameron's (except for the first Terminator and of course Piranha 2 - that was awesome) but he never slipped into Z-level mediocrity the way Friedkin did. But nothing he did was remotely as good as the French Connection (and I guess the Exorcist, even though it comes in a distant second to Rosemary's Baby in the satanic kid category). So **** it, I'm writing in Herzog here.

7 - Frank Capra vs. 10 Ingmar Bergman - This is tough. I'm voting for Bergman but part of me wonders if my vote would be different had he cast someone other than Liv Ullman (an acting treasure) in my favorite films of his.
    2 - Quentin Tarantino
vs. 15 George Miller - Tarantino, like Lynch, is practically a cinematic adjective now. I don't always love his films but he's unquestionably among the great and distinct directors in film.

I'm an average to below average movie watcher at best so forgive my ignorance and I apologize if I offend anyone's intelligence.

    East Regional
1 - Stanley Kubrick vs. 16 Amy Heckerling-- Stanley Kubrick cause Full Metal Jacket always leaves me feeling a different way about the movie and who is Amy Heckerling..

8 - Cecil B. DeMile vs. 9 Victor Fleming-- not a fan of either cause I'm not into the "Classics" but I'd have to go Demile cause I would watch Moses over Gone With the Wind

5 - Sidney Lumet vs. 12 Nancy Meyers-- Sidney Lumet because Find me Guilty is highly underrated although I really like What Women Want

4 - Orson Welles vs. 13 M Night Shyamalan-- M- Night, mainly because I don't think i have seen anything by Orson Welles

6 - Ang Lee vs. 11 Alfonso Cuaron-- Ang Lee because his range is ridiculous

3 - Ridley Scott vs. 14 Tony Scott-- This one was tough for because I love Ridley's body of work but the re-watchability of Tony's movies makes me chose Tony over Ridley

7 - Steven Soderbergh vs. 10 John Hughes-- John Hughes, his movies are iconic

2 - Coen Brothers vs. 15 Danny Boyle-- Coen Brothers although their last 2 or 3 movies have not moved me much

    Midwest Regional
1 - Steven Spielberg vs. 16 George Cukor-- Spielberg

8 - George Lucas vs. 9 Ron Howard-- Ron Howard, I'm a huge Star Wars fan and wanted to go for George but Ron has too many classics

5 - Clint Eastwood vs. 12 Mike Nichols-- Clint Eastwood

4 - David Fincher vs. 13 Roman Polanski-- David Fincher, Se7en, nuff said
6 - Tim Burton vs. 11 Spike Lee-- I love Tim Burton's creativity and his Batman is underrated when compared to Christopher Nolan, but Spike Lee tells a great story and I gotta go with Spike Lee

3 - James Cameron vs. 14 William Friedkin-- James Cameron and Terminator 1 over Terminator 2 btw

7 - Frank Capra vs. 10 Ingmar Bergman-- Not really a fan of either but I'll go Frank Capra because of It's a Wonderful Life

2 - Quentin Tarantino vs. 15 George Miller-- George Miller has some fun movies to watch, but Tarantino's dialogue is second to none; Quentin Tarantino

Technically the dialogue in Tarantino’s movies is his credit as a writer, not director. He wrote True Romance and the dialogue is fantastic but he didn’t direct it at all. But people are picking George Lucas and not realizing how little he actually directed so it’s a moot point.

I get it, but he still directs and writes great dialogue.
