Why would the NFL step in for the Texans and none of the other teams? Why didn't the NFL step in for the Saints? Why is SAS not ranting about how the Saints gave Bienemy a token interview then hired their guy anyways? Have the saints ever hired a black head coach by the way?
I could see Lovie Smith moving upstairs after a couple of years (or to whatever role Romeo has been performing) prior to grooming McCown. Really no can kicking in that scenario. But that only works if McCown is on the staff.
Well, according to you they were just about to hire a white dude with 0 head coaching experience. Seems like if that was true they don't value experience as much as you think they do.
Nah.... defensive players LOVE them some Lovie Smith, always have.... problem is, that only gets you so far.
Yet no one on ESPN is ranting or raving about it lol. The team getting flack for it is the only team to hire a black coach this offseason...imagine that. As I've said though, the Texans are stupid, not so much racist. Especially compared to half of the league that has never hired a black coach.
Lovie was consulted on the prospective candidates HA! This "reeks" of the Frank Underwood playbook. All jokes aside, I'll root for Lovie.
Right. My argument isn't that the Texans are 0% racist or race never factors into their decision making, that's impossible to even know...without evidence of course. But compared to the rest of the NFL? The Texans are not the team that people should be pointing at here. They've had hired more black coaches (2 now) than most of the league, had a black GM for far too long as well. I think they are getting it now because the next team that hired a black coach after the Flores thing was always going to face this narrative that the NFL made them do it. If the Texans hired Flores the narrative would be "The NFL hopes to make Flores happy and quietly settle this away."
Calhoun: Exciting day I see the pieces coming together Never seen more thorough, inclusive, in depth process than what Nick just went through with coaching search Expect to win at everything we do Extreme respect for Lovie Smith for years. Only grew throughout last season and through this process.
Nick: Appreciate Cal and Hannah’s support; stood behind me every step of the way. Blessed to have their trust. Thanks for backing me. Process was long & thorough. Started 2nd week in January and end point today. Coach Smith is one of the most respected figures in the league, throughout halls of NRG Best opportunity to move forward was with Lovie Smith Lot of work in front of us; we know what the road looks like
Lovie: Lot of people, just think, I’m a HS product of our great state of Texas Dream when you start playing is play as long as you can and I wanted to be a coach Can’t thank Cal, Hannah, Mrs. McNair enough to have faith in me to lead our program Had a chance to work with Nick for entire year; … Wanted to coach all my life Known Pep for a long time; tried to hire him a couple different times; he’ll be leading our offense Frank Ross is an outstanding ST coordinator; excited about them wanting to join our staff To sit in this role, this position is about winning football games and doing it a certain way. I’m old school. Play good offense, need to be able to run the football. Defensively, being able to score just like on offense; takeaways… Special Teams, can’t win without that third element. 4th phase is the fans. Can’t play winning football without you. Our responsibility to bring the fans back Great day, we’re excited.
I wonder what video game Caserio bought Cal to keep him distracted enough to not want to participate in this press conference. I wanted to know how that wall of his was coming along.
Oh I had no problem with their approach last offseason. My issue is that I think we'll see a somewhat similar approach not because of cap space but rather not wanting to make big investments because they aren't fully invested in Lovie.
