I like both, Costello's more artsy and Petty's more fun.

But Elvis Costello was never on King of the Hill.

    Team Petty

Same with me. It’s a tough one as I like both especially the 1970’s Elvis Costello stuff.

Tom Petty’s overall body of work I think is better and yes he was Lucky on King of the Hill.

I own close to 10 Costello albums compared to maybe 1 or even zero Petty albums, so I think you know that I am picking Costello. I have nothing against Tom Petty and he had some good songs but he definitely was the more mainstream artist. Plus he never came close to putting something out there like “This Year’s Model”. A better question would be Elvis Costello vs Graham Parker vs Joe Jackson. Heck, you could maybe even throw Nick Lowe in there as well.

Tough call for me. Different genres so it’s not exactly apples to apples.

I’ll pick Petty because I’ve been a fan longer. I was late to the game on EC and think he’s criminally underrated.

Tom Petty because he helped Lil Dicky 'save that money' (@5:43).

I respect Petty for his pop hits, but I respect Costello so so much more.

I'm a HUGE Elvis fan.... but Tom just has so many great songs. Slight edge to Tom Petty.

For me, it's Petty and it's not even close. I pretty much keep paying for Sirius for the Tom Petty channel. But these 2 aren't really comparable. Costello is very talented. I just never really got into much of his stuff.
