Alien Gladiator Blade Runner Black Hawk Down The Martian [Thelma and Louise, The Duellists, American Gangster, Last Duel, Kingdom of Heaven (director's cut), some crap] Aliens Terminator T2 True Lies Titanic Avatar [documentaries, upcoming smurf crap] Aliens is the best movie either have made, but I like Ridley's stuff and style more. Edge: Ridley
Kurosawa vs Kubrick Scorsese vs Coppola Lucas vs Spielberg Tarantino vs Nolan Wes Anderson vs the Coen Bros Leone vs Ford Wilder vs Welles Oliver Stone vs Peckinpah? George Miller invites you all to his Thunderdome, I've leaving out so many amazing directors (Hitchcock, Huston, Lean, etc...) we should do a proper 64 tourney.
James Cameron simply got bored making regular movies, it was too easy for him. Ridley Scott has a whole bunch of meh movies in between his great work. Titanic and Avatar (both grossly overhyped upon release, but still good) are still better than most of Ridley Scott's movies. If we're concentrating it down to top 5 movies, then it's a valid discussion. I still strongly favor Cameron because I love the Terminators and never cared for Blade Runner, but I could see how somebody would disagree.
Cameron's top movies are more satisfying to rewatch imo. He has incredible attention to detail. Scott's name has watered down lately with the action gore dramas, but they're memorable and sometimes clever, Tough choice. Cameron needs to mint more movies.
Ridley Scott for me - James Cameron is solid and I respect him a lot but when you have Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator to name a few under your belt…I mean come on.
Is Cameron even a full time director? I feel he is some sort of visionary, diver, explorer of ancient myths, cultures and artifacts. An Indiana Cameron so to speak. Need to confirm. @Jontro
Cameron is better at making big blockbusters but otherwise seems very limited. Ridley Scott can do the big loud blockbuster but it's the quiet moments of a lot his movies that have the most power. Blade Runner isn't great because of the action but because of the vision. This scene isn't great because of big explosions and gun fights. Cameron can make a very entertaining movie but Scott is a better director with a much greater range. He can entertain but also can make you think and feel.
