    3) Teams having a strong preference for a coach over the other candidates happens all the time. What does being black have to do with it if all the candidates were go through the motions interviews. I get it that it's wrong and against the rules but not neccessarily racist.

I'm not arguing it's racist. It's just awkward and unfortunate.

NFL: we're instituting a rule that compels teams to interview candidates they may not have any interest in hiring

Teams: conducts a bunch of perfunctory interviews with candidates they have no interest in hiring

For me, the Rooney Rule did its' job. It gave and gives a voice to the minority candidate. They get heard. It wasn't there to guarantee hiring. Its about as useful as the don't ask don't tell policy, but both technically take a baby step toward progress where no baby step appears possible. The league is in the right state of mind. But change is hard.

I don't believe they would ask a white head coach to compromise their integrity, deliberately sacrifice their own professional resume and to some extent those of his players, especially for what is chump change compared to the 8 figure top NFL head coach salaries.

He's lucky to be here, how dare he not blindly follow my improper and potentially illegal orders period, much less getting paid extra to do so. $100k is a lot of money! Find me one I can WORK with!

    It's not against the rules.

It's against the spirit of a racist rule.

This stuff doesn’t work in the real world
Like doctors, programmers, and airplane pilots

The rule inherently has a loophole , it just creates sham interviews

Interesting, the NFL management and coaches were cartoonishly and publicly racist during the merger and early Super Bowl era; stuff like the AFL booking segregated hotels and their black players having to sleep in their car, the entire league asking Warren Moon to play safety after winning the Rose Bowl but before being the greatest QB in CFL history, Halas saying the NFL would draft black players "once the Globetrotters drated white ones." I think the Oilers played at a segregated field in their first few years, Moon still glorified Bud Adams upon his death saying the first thing that came to mind when hearing is name was "black quarterbacks."

Flores' statement following Lovie's hire hurt his credibility a lot. Can't believe his lawyers let that go out the door.

Like I've said, I just hope that Flores has some dirt on Easterby that is so heinous that it gets him permabanned from the league...that would be the best thing ever...

I can verify what you said about the Oilers. When I was a kid, my uncle took us to one of their games when they played at Jeppesen Stadium and we had to watch the game from the "Colored" section.

Fascinating. What year was this, and what were Scott, Wheeler, Cullen and the rest of Third Ward like back then?

Most importantly, as we would have been in the same section back then, did they sell snacks to that part of the stands?
