Being open minded should never be shut down

If a spurs fan thinks Robinson is better than Hakeem you want to know his logic
And then show him the 1995 video

Not sure if this has been said yet, but the problem isn't Rogan or Spotify or his guests or Neil Young or Joni Mitchell, it's all the ****ing morons who believe everything they hear (as long as it's what they want to hear) and give more credence to some white guy ranting in a pickup truck than to thousands and thousands of experts in the field.

The Drive By Truckers saw it coming

    Astrophysics at our fingertips
And we're standing at the summit
And some man with a joystick
Lands a rocket on a comet
    We're living in an age
    Where limitations are forgotten
The outer edges move and dazzle us
But the core is something rotten
And we're standing on the precipice
    Of prejudice and fear
We trust science just as long
As it tells us what we want to hear
We want our truths all fair and balanced
As long as our notions lie within it
There's no sunlight in our ass'
And our heads are stuck up in it

Is changing algorithms to not promote podcasts peddling misinformation also censorship?

I am a Spotify subscriber and the thought of canceling my membership never crossed my mind. I don't think many people over a very small trickle and passionate Neil Young groupies are considering canceling their subscription. None of this had to do with censorship or even cancel culture. It's just a few people (Young & Mitchell) having a conniption about some of the guests on Joe Rogan's podcast. Honestly it's more PR than anything else.

To me, it's good that people are made aware that Joe Rogan has guests on the show that spread misinformation. He should be called out on that given his influence and power. People act like pushing back on power is somehow a bad thing. It's not. What would be bad is Rogan's show being canceled for it. But putting pressure on him to select more truthful guests or at the very least show the other perspective / question his guests more is a very good thing.

I feel this gets lost in the whole polarization of this debate into a censorship/cancel culture issue, which at its core it's not. The actions of Young had more impact than trying to hurt Spotify that gets lost. Awareness and pressure are useful tools that go far beyond trying to cancel someone even if that might have been the original intent.

Neil Young should have said what Jon Stewart said.

I agree with Stewart and think Neil Young is flawed in his approach, but am simply saying his actions unwittingly had a positive impact in this case.

What Neil Young should have done...well, that's up to him. It's his free speech just as much as it is Joe Rogan's to put put bad guests. If one wants to criticize Young, you have to criticize Rogan as well. Either they have the right to express themselves or they don't. And everyone is free to criticize their actions.

But I don't like that somehow it becomes a censorship / cancel culture debate when no one is being censored or canceled.

you must have missed the part where Neil Young wrote "They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”

I love his main point there. But... great blasts for Tucker Carlson (the "confusion enema" expression) and Eric Clapton included gratis. :D

I saw that, I don't see how that relates to censorship or cancel culture. Unless you mean that Neil Young is canceling himself?

It's strange that this is being discussed in relation to censorship, when there is plenty of actual censorship happening in regards to supposed anti-CRT and PC groups.

Legacy Media and Chinese trolls love CNN and FOX news, don't want Podcasters winning

but Podcasters are beating them down like dogs
