In all honesty I actually don’t like the idea of them turning Harden into something like Simmons from the perspective of owning their picks. The best case scenario was always that this thing goes really bad and all of their big 3 don’t extend and leave. That’s off with KD extending. The next best was that they tie their cap up with extending/re-signing but some combination of aging/injuries and Kyrie being Kyrie leaves them as a poor capped out team with no real path to improve. In spite of many posters who don’t understand what happens to your body in your 30’s, what you have to do to combat that, and that Harden pretty clearly wasn’t doing that, the Nets being stuck with him in his mid 30s on a max extension was extremely likely to be good for us as owners of their picks. I don’t really want them to find a better use for that salary slot.
