You can make the most successful person in history seem unsuccessful by downplaying their successes and harping on their failures.
Not aware of the internal dynamics behind Hinkie's time with Sixers. And I was not a fan of ONLY building via draft. But he was better GM than Colangelo imo.
One can assume the internal dynamics weren't good, lol. To me Stone's miss so far is obvious - JG. Otherwise i have virtually no issue with any of his moves. Sure, he COULD have kept LeVert and JA. There's a possibility then the team doesn't get a top 4 pick - which now, you might say who cares, but had they selected Mobley you'd be saying thank god. It's a bit unrealistic to expect him or any GM to get every decision 100% correct though. But certainly, if the BIGGEST decision - right now the #2 selection, who knows if they ever pick that high again - ends up wrong, that's definitely a problem. And, not another good look, but i think the coach hire in retrospect was wrong, so that's 2 VERY important decisions that could have gone better. I'm not sure what the full plan is, but i can only assume given the picks owed/swapped with OKC, and due from Brooklyn, it involves not rebuilding for 5 years. I'll say this for sure, had ALL of JG, Sengun, Garuba and Jaygup disappointed, I'd be 1,000% on board with replacing Stone before he gets to make any further draft picks that's for sure. As is, I'm willing to let him roll another draft. There's definitely the possibility that whomever you'd replace him with could be MUCH worse. There's the possibility that whatever alternative coach might have been hired would have been even more of a disaster, etc, etc. I'll give him a B- so far, which some might say is generous, but for me i'm factoring in the youth of the picks and that it could be the type of thing in 3 years where these are very good players...
Good point, Stone hired Silas over guy Harden & Westbrook wanted, Lucas. Same Lucas who is developing our young players. And a HC worse than Silas is unimaginable. Silas is worst record in franchise history, a franchise with more than century of existence. Putrid offense and worst defense in entire NBA bad. God bless you man.
Never said he didn't. Not a fan of any of the assistants. But at least Lucas understands athlete's mental health and he has proven success improving player's shots. It's also up to player not to regress, no? Especially if the players discard the forms that helped them improve.
I don't see the logic on this one tbh. You think Green was a bust but also think somebody will trade you a top 5 pick for him? I'm not sure both things go together. Either he's a top 5 pick and worth that, or he's a bust. You can't be both.
https://www.si.com/more-sports/2011/11/30/john-lucas Worked with Clint, Rivers, BMac, KPJ even Green (fixed his form but after came back from injury he went back to his busted form for several games). Lucas also is held in high esteem by majority of NBA. When Lucas talks, players listen. https://spacecityscoop.com/2020/08/29/houston-rockets-john-lucas-salvage-postseason/ https://www.si.com/nba/2021/02/08/john-lucas-rockets-45-year-career
Wonder how much they pay for handing the ball to a player and counting to two? I think I can do that. I'm bored.
Green still has fans and believers in NBA, Shaq and others have preached patience. But 1) Green will never be a great 2 way player and 2) he may never reach his potential as a scorer. His value is still high and I'd package him now for a top 6 pick so Rockets can get TWO top 10 picks that are further along in their development. 2 out the following top 5 players would be better than Green + another mid-low FRP. Banchero Jabari Chet AJ Ivey Just my 2 cents.
We'll have to agree to disagree I guess. I don't think he'll ever be a "great" defender, but the progress he's made already this season on that end of the floor (he was genuinely useless) should be pretty clear for anybody with eyes to see. He still sucks on his off-ball defence, and gets caught ball-watching way too much, but his on-ball defense has come along well. He might never be great, but he certainly has the potential to be solid. I don't have a problem with an elite offensive player (which I, and many pundits still think he will be - you don't say somebody's going to be a scoring leader if they're average) who isn't a genius on the defensive end. In fact my favourite player circa 2012-2020 had viral videos about how trash he was on D, you may have heard of him? I'd rather have a potential scoring leader than a 2 way player who'll never come close. I'm more than comfortable building around Green, KP, Christopher, Sengun and whoever we get in this next draft as that's undoubtedly a good pick again. Even better if Harden bails on the Nets (with the added bonus that I could root for him to win a chip again) and they implode to give us a stream of draft picks to bolster the ranks as our core develops.
