Will we try to pursue any free agent center ala Marc Jackson or Nazr Mohammed to back up Hakeem (if resigned)? If we can sign all our free agents and then pick up a young center, we will be set for the playoffs.

It depends on how much money the Rockets have after they sign the free agents of their own. Also, do they want 4 centers on the roster if they sign Jackson or Nazr after resigning Dream. It will also depend on if they are able to trade Cato and what they get in return.

I agree with Crash. Robinson would only help the Rockets for a year or 2. The Rockets should definately take a look at Lafrentz. He's a terrific defender and has a great shot. How many centers do you know of that can make three pointers(besides Sam Perkins)?

yes we need another center but,Lafrentz had already shown that he can't compete with most of the centers in the west.but we do need a veteran for 2 years to tutor a young center such as B.Haywood,Nazr M.

I think the Rockets should pursue Nazr Mohammed and resign Hakeem. Hakeem could mentor Mohammed and teach him some of his moves.

yeah he hasn't displayed much against centers in the west, but thats with the nuggets...different players, coach and system. he might be a better fit with the rockets and Rudy/CD's system of pulling Shaq out of the paint to defend the perimeter and open up the lane for a driving Wink, Cat, Anderson, Griffen whom will draw there own defenders leaving him (Lafrenz) open for a three. just a thought, i still like the Haywood and Mohammand suggestions as well. i would like to see us get one of the three at least and move Cato.

Like Dream he does nothing to address our long term needs. There are others that do a much better job of helping us be competitive at a championship level 3 or 4 years down the road than DRob. LaFrentz and Mohammed.

With the new zone rules Shaq will be under no obligation to follow someone out of the paint or away from the baskett. Shaq can stick around the goal and let who ever is guarding that part of the floor go to the shooter. There will be nothing easy in the paint this year.

Another possiblity would be Olden Polynice at C. He's wanting out of Utah accorrding to bskball.com The more serviceable at C than Cato and not too expensive either. Since there was so many big men in the draft this year, I'm starting to think RT and CD should have traded some cash for a second rounder like some teams did.

I'm sure every poster on this BBS wants to move Cato and his way-above-market contract. But what GM in his right mind would take him?

number1withabullet: And what centers might these be, other than Shaq? You'd really rather have Nazr Mohammed than Raef Lafrenz?

Mohammed is larger. That's it. Lafrenz is a far more skilled player. Start picking on size and you're going to run into trouble.

Lafrenz did average a decent # of blocks. No, he's not huge. But unless you're playing Shaq, there isn't a center in the West who's going to torch you. Stop worrying about mediocre centers going for 30, or something.
