Grizz would probably match that contract. They aren't going to lose players for nothing. West is stockpiling them to do 2 for 1, 3 for 1 deals.
We should keep this in perspective. Even assuming the best situation (TMac + Gooden), we still wouldnt be championship material right away. Yao still needs to get better and tougher. Also, chemistry must be developed. Within 2 or 3 seasons, we should be able to fill those voids. Depth is not important next year. Depth can be added with time. We have time. Our goal is to make significant progress and get out of the first round. Once we get deeper in the playoffs, we can add the final few pieces.
that was what i was wondering....but then again...I'm pretty sure McGrady doesn't want to go to *ahem* Memphis and there's no dominant big man there.
I dont think West would give up Pau and other than Pau he is the only real star player on that team. The team is filled with solid players but no stars. He doesnt have the assets to get McGrady and even if he did I am not sure McGrady would want to GO there.
Maybe Orlando could throw in Lue or DeClerq along with T-Mac and Howard. The trade creates a HUGE depth loss, and it doesn't help that we didn't have much depth to begin with. But finding a legit PG and backup C won't be too hard to do with our MLE and TE, especially if we're dangling a T-Mac/Yao duo in their faces. PG Brent Barry- defensive liability, but is smart and can shoot, not sure what kind of deal he is looking for. Derek Fisher- has TONS of experience with playing with stars. He plays good D and knows how to work with a dominant big guy and a scoring SG. My first choice for PG. Eric Snow- can be traded for, smart, plays D, can pass. Others McDyess- could come off the bench for some rest for Yao. Not sure if he can finish a season, or even start one. Eddie- I know some of ya'll don't like the idea, but he can come cheap, and he is still young. JVG might be able to do some defensive wonders with this kid. Fisher-Wilks Jackson-Pike TMac-Nachbar Howard-Taylor Yao-MyDyess or Eddie
I would love Derek Fisher..Brent Barry would be great as well..Eric Snow fine too but have to trade for him. I'd like for us to get Mcdyess..try him...no thanks to Eddie though.
Our best bet for a starting PG would be Eric Snow. The Sixers are dying to get rid of his contract, and he's a coach-friendly PG. He could be had for Adrian and Pike (if the bobcats don't pick one of them up) or Weatherspoon, Charlie Ward will be our backup next year regardless. Juwan would probably be send with T-Mac. He'd be an upgrade at the four. Taylor will still be our scoring punch off the bench. We would be very weak at the 3. Hopefully, Boki will make strides. We could always sign Eric Williams - he's a JVG type of player. He and JJ could probably split minutes evenly at the 3 and backup 2. Tracy will probably play about the same amount of minutes as Cuttino did. Maybe we could get McKie from the Sixers too. They're looking to get rid of his contract as well, and he's a good defender/3pt shooter. I agree with you about backup center. Yao just isn't a 36-38mpg player, and he still tends to pick up dumb fouls early. Maybe the Trade excepion to NY for Mutombo? I can't think of anything else. Regardless, our team will look very, very different if this trade goes down.
on realgm this is just about the only trade that works assuming we send steve, cat, and cato: our 3 for tmac, howard, lue, gains, declerq. then we would have: yao-dec howard-mo-spoon tmac-boki-ag jj-pike-gains lue-wilks our main concern at this point is a point. we have options... (1) trade mo - i would put $$ down that seattle gives us daniels and james for him. daniels BTW had the best ast/to ratio in the nba. he would be a perfect fit with his tough D and solid shot. (2)MLE - i know for a fact (after meeting him) that damon jones would sign with us if the price was right, and that was with steve here. he had the second best ast/to ratio last year. (3) snow is available in trade for just about anything...
I guess nobody watched the NBA Finals.... Francis and Billups are both scoring point guards. Funny nobody rips Billups about his assists. Billups has a better jump shot, but Steve can get to the basket and Steve used to be able to shot from the outside. Rip and Cat both can score from the 2. Same here, Rip might be better from the outside, but Cat can also get to the basket. Prince and Jackson both defend and score. Prince more athletic. Jackson might be a better scorer. Big Ben and Cato. I know Ben is the center and Cato is the 4, but both are similiar players. Both rebound and defend. Big Ben more dominant. Yao and Sheed. Same here, Yao is a center and Sheed is a 4. Well.....Yao Ming.
even though our players are similar, they are better at what they do. they had team chemistry, better shooting, defense, and offense...we are nowhere near them. their team was built around a "TEAM" concept, while we are building around one guy, hopefully 2 if we land tmac.
We have only played one year in Van Gundy's system. Hopefully our players were watching the Finals and will realize that this system might actuallly work. Besides, 5 on 2 advantage Pistons. Which is what we will be left with if we sell the farm for T-Mac.
I wouldn't worry about this at all. We'd still have the ability to add depth a few ways: - Trade MoT for depth. (MoT for Mihm and Yogi Stewart is my favorite) - Second round pick. I know I know, bu it's not nothing. - MLE (We can get 2 or 3 players with this) - Veteran's minimum. (people looking for a ring) - The TE, which can be used on a few players as well. - The exception we'd acquire from the Bobcats for selecting Pike. Assuming Mobley, Cato, Pike and Francis are gone, we're looking at: Yao MoT/Weatherspoon/Howard JJ/Boki T-Mac/AG Wilks We only need a PG, a backup C, and a backup swingman. Here's what I envision: - MoT for Yogi Stewart and Mihm. - Alston or Mike James and McDyess split the MLE (short term deals). - Wesley Person for veteran's minimum. Yao/Mihm/Yogi McDyess/Howard/Spoom JJ/Boki/AG T-Mac/Person Alston/Wilks/Second round pick? who knows Our team actually looks better. Mihm and Yogi are in contract years. Only Howard has a long contract, four years at 5M per season. Not bad. In fact, the team is much improved.
