Judging from your post history about hiphop/rap that I've seen on this board, you're not a hiphop/rap fan
It was a massive hit and will be played in gatherings far more often than many of these songs. But, it's also the type of pop hit that won't have much staying power in the future. I can only assume this was intended to be more a list of cultural phenomenon vs a collection of actual hit records or "best of" list. In 10-15 years there will be a few of these songs that people remember but honestly it will be Kendrick/Drake/J Cole/Future and many of the rest will be forgotten. No one will be jamming Lil Peep, probably not even Lil Peep.
I heard this song approximately 1273 times in various middle/high school dances and parties and such. It's insane that I can still quote all the lyrics from memory.
There's still good artists that continually release new content that I think is still very good. JID, Lute, Kendrick, SZA, Westside Gunn, Mach Hommie, Pink Siifu, Armand Hammer, JPEGMAFIA, Hus Kingpin, Freddie Gibbs, TheGame, Aesop Rock, A$AP Rocky just off the top of my head. Nas has released 3 consecutive albums that I think hang with his older classic material. There's some fantastic producers out there still that date back to the 90s and early 2000s and probably even predate that like Madlib, Alchemist, Hit-Boy.
That was the funniest **** I have seen in a while and on point. it sums up the way I feel about rap these days. Questlove looking a little rickety these days.
Right, but they jam the good music not necessarily whatever was popping at that time. So, no one is jamming Lil Zane Callin me but it was hot in 2000 It was #1 on the billboard 100 for weeks, Grammy nominated among others, certified platinum or diamond in multiple countries. It was a massive hit by pretty much any metric available.
Well no ****, why wouldn't you rock the good music? ETA: this popped back at the time, I can give more stories and songs if you're interested
There's plenty "get off my lawn" happening in this thread. And it typically happens every generation... 80's fans typically discredit 90's music... 90's fans don't fully respect the 00's. So on and so forth. It gets worst and worst each decade depending on your start point Same thing happens in real life.... "these kids today are so disrespectful and unruly (compared to MY DAY)".... Every generation says similar. Guess what??.... everybody learns from the previous generation In general... beats are better nowadays. The flows are better. The problem is there's less substance in the current lyrics
