    But he needs to punished for killing a woman
    If they had diagnosed him as mentally ill and not suitable to be in the outside world instead of putting him in jail and letting him out 11 times , it would have saved this woman’s life

    Punishing people doesn't do anything productive especially if they are mentally ill. Removing violent people from society really is the only option.

    But to solve these kinds of problems and prevent senseless murders like this one, this country has to change its attitudes around mental health. Instead of ostracizing people with mental health issues we need to take it more seriously and work to get people treatment sooner in their lives. This needs to be done regardless of someone's socioeconomic status.

    Of course that won't happen because the money isn't there and we live in an anti-tax society. So for now, there is no solution.

    Did you miss the part when the woman dies?
    There’s universal laws for killing people

    my sympathy goes to the victim
    @rocketsjudoka
    But apparently nobody talks about race when the protagonist is of a certain race
    And now nobody calls Asian victims as a hate crime
    @SuraGotMadHops
    What’s up with the media coverage? People more outraged about a trans joke by Dave chappelle than homelessness and murder

    How is putting a mentally ill murderer behind bars going to bring her back to life?

    Work on preventing the next tragedy vs a biblical sense of justice

    I don’t know how to solve the problem besides try to avoid people in general, listen to your instincts and carry some sort of personal defense for when you can’t run or hide in a personal life threatening situation. (pepper spray, knife, ccw) and yet that still may not be enough - that poor lady at the train could have done all the above and a surprise blind side attack just can’t be countered..and that poor girl at the furniture store, smh - people can be absolutely monsters in disguise. Life is so unfair- I pray there is more peace and love somehow

    I am sure he will end up in prison if he stands as mentally competent for trial. I am not debating that.

    I saw a documentary about Asylums and Sanitariums on PBS:
    pretty good watch

    MYSTERIES OF MENTAL ILLNESS

    The Rise and Fall of the Asylum
    Episode 3 | 54m|Video has closed captioning.

    Until a few decades ago, the United States relied on mass confinement in mental asylums, for the mentally ill, as well as extreme treatments, from lobotomy to coma therapy. Today, at Cook County Jail in Chicago, more than one-third of inmates have a mental health diagnosis. Meet the detainees whose lives hang in the balance and discover the harsh realities of care both in and out of jail.

    It mostly happened in the 70s after the release of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

    The development of very good mental illness drugs also led many people to believe you could treat lots of people at home. The problem is you are depending on an insane person to regularly take their meds.
