I rather see dadbod Boba Fett in the next Avengers movie than in the next Star Wars movie. The former can absorb a derivative character like this and still succeed. The latter franchise can't afford to mess things up the next go around lol.
I haven't caught up yet, but I agree. A lot of mistakes can be covered up if at least the main character is interesting, but this dude is boring and doesn't make me want to watch.
My understanding is that he had the role in some way in one of the prequel movies right? That's why there was supposed to be some familiarity with the actor? I'll tell you what... making a decision based on ANYTHING related to those prequels is mistake #1. I heard they put in Hayden Christensen in the new Obi Wan series, and that tells me they haven't learned that lesson yet. I think that's an area where MCU heads do a good job of going with what has worked, and completely retconning characters, storylines, and actors that don't work. You should have trust in your audience that they'll be able to deal with a change in actors from one piece of film to the next. Especially with a character who is recognizable because of his helmet for crying out loud. They could have basically anyone they wanted because of that.
The prequels have had a resurgence in popularity, so I can understand bringing back this actor, but he was better as just a face of the clones. too many lines for this dude and Boba in general. I'm actually excited to see Hayden back though; I think he is a better actor than those prequels. But we all know Disney is going to screw up Obi Wan too. They have a better track record making up stuff than going back to the classics.
To me I think the story in between the main movies everyone was interested in was the Obi Wan story in between the Prequels and New Hope because it's such a cool premise as the silent protector, shunned Jedi master in the desert. We've had so much X character wanders the desert now that I think it's really going to hamper Obi Wan as a general setup of what the character would be doing. The main flaw of Boba might be that it has affects on Obi Wan. This isn't the character we cared to see having a find-yourself in the desert type of story. That's something for a gifted actor and character like Obi Wan/Ewan. I guess we'll just wait and see. They really are risking Star Wars fatigue though which is a shame. It's not a show that should be wearing out it's welcome like Star Trek always did with me. The cult like geeks will always be there even if they complain about wanting more. They should just slow down and be a bit more careful going forward, but I'm sure they want to keep up with the MCU and Disney is hell bent on being 99% of the worlds media consumption so I don't have high hopes for quality over quantity moving forward with both universes.
Thought this episode, like others did here, was much better than the previous few. More of a plot and just better.
Boba Fett was only ever popular because of the mystery. Now not only is the mystery gone, we're not even getting prime Boba, we're getting beaten down middle aged, schlubby Boba. A show about Boba Fett should have been prime Boba, before the original trilogy. Instead the Mandolorian completely filled that role. From the start the Boba Fett series was built on a bad premise. It's not a bad show, it just has no reason to justify it's existence. It doesn't add anything and the writing isn't strong enough to carry interest. Nothing about it does a good job of demanding your attention. Having said that, Ming Na can't be human because looking this good at almost 60 is ridiculous.
Like the Mandolorian, I'm just sitting back and watching where the ride will take the viewer. Favreau probably geeked out on the toy promo during his youth and is putting his 50 yr old SW badge on the line not only to rehab Bobas image but also as a vanity piece for his kids and his little inner child I mean for all who are talking SW fatigue, I don't think these shows cheapen it that much as long as it captures the spirit of the original trilogy... Not great, could better, but I don't think it needs to try hard and I'd hate the show uf they sprung some hidden agenda on viewers. Yeah, ilm de-aged her face hardcore in those night scenes. Still amazing. Beals manages to pull off a hot 60ish yr old casino madam alien as well.
that episode sucked. it seems that each one of these 4 keeps getting worse. last week it was the millennial hipster steam punks on multi-colored vespas. this week it was multiple uses of 90's techno music that have no place in the star wars universe. on that note, i really dont like the theme music with the human voices. they did a great job with the manadalorian music and in comparison, boba fett is pretty lame. i wonder if its the same people. the entire premise of the show was goofy - this bad ass, mysterious bounty hunter decides to settle down on a wasteland planet and become a vito corrleone-style benevolent crime boss. it makes no sense. the acting and dialogue are mediocre at best. he is the wrong dude to be carrying a show.
The guy that plays Boba Fett is the SAME guy that played Jango Fett in SW II. They are going with consistency. I like the casting. But there definitely is a focus problem with the series.
Temura Morrison can't carry a show, much less be Boba Fett. And I don't care that he's the same actor who played Jango, he sucked in that movie too.
So why did Obi Wan live so far away from Luke? Seems kinda risky if he is supposed to watch over the kid.
