It’s so hard to take Ben Affleck and Matt Damon seriously in this movie. I’ve had to watch this movie in three installments I’m so bored…
I watched the movie on a flight and thought it was pretty good. I generally liked the performance of all of the main characters. I was pretty impressed to with Jodie Comer. On the same flight I watched Free Guy and was impressed by her in both roles. Spoiler The one part that I found very interesting and I wish that they had addressed it more was why did Jacques LeGris refuse to admit his guilt even when he was about to die? The easy interpretation was that he was just stubborn and convinced of his rightness and he had a right to any women. I think he actually did think that Margauritte consented and just resisted for show. The key was in his rememberance of the events leading up to the rape was that Margauritte took her shoes off deliberatly before she went up the stairs which under the mores of that time would've been seen as an invitation. IN Margauritte's rememberance her shoes fell off accidently as she was trying to get away. I though that was a particularly salient plot point that never really was explored.
Ridley Scott's first movie was The Duelist, also based on a true story of officers in Napolean's service who fought a series of duels over the course of years.
He was better than Affleck, that’s for sure. But he delivered his lines too Shakespearean. Like he was in a play, rather than a movie scene. The duel scene was pretty epic though.
Not sure why Damon had the only mullet in the movie and why Affleck had that bleached hair and goatee. didn’t really enjoy the movie but the wife liked it. Duel was good.
Don't know how the movie scored so high around the interwebs. I did like the biased chapters of both parties, so the viewer could play judge and try to drum up and choose their own conclusion, to then have the true story be told in the end. Acting was turribull. The choice of a dark haired Adam driver was a good touch, not only was he good in this movie, it answered the question of who that child belonged to at the end.
Don't gas me up. The Brit take is an unpopular one. As fas as places encouraging Hollywood to do business, for better or worse, Georgia (Atlanta and other cities) comes to mind as a place where shows go to film. Walking Dead, bunch of TruTV shows and many others. Canada subsidies got lot of TV shows/films in the last two decades. It's not cheap to film in Hollywood CA. Over the years, Britain worked hard on cultivating a relationship with the large studios (Disney, WB, Sony, Paramount..etc). They invest in their arts, and have a steady pipeline of talented young actors for selection when a big property comes along and need casting. Can't hate the hustle.
The game is bigly rigged for Brits. Everytime there's a historical or fantasy movie, these directors chose Brit as the official language. WTF is that??? Give Mercan actors a break!
I had the same thought about Damon's hair but didn't mind Affleck's as much since he wasn't on screen as much. That mullet was so distracting I actually looked it up. Apparently mullets were big during that time and was a part of distinguishing the new younger class of nobility from the older more traditional nobility. Aside from that, I did like the movie.
You watched a completely different movie. The 30 minutes Affleck was on screen was the worst 30 minutes of anyone on screen in the history of cinema, and there's no real way to justify any other opinion. ...pause..."HA Hah!" So, so horrible.
