Most (if not all) of you are overlooking something very, very important: TIME (as in, contract length)

We've got Steve under contract for 5 more seasons, Mobley for 1, maybe 2 more seasons (he can opt out after next season), and Cato for two more seasons. They're asking us to trade all that for ONE season (maybe two - he can opt out) left on T-Mac's contract?

That means that we'd have ONE, maybe two seasons with T-Mac and Yao, and then we'd have .... just Yao.

I want T-Mac as much as anyone else, but if we pass on him, and wait one more season, we could have T-Mac AND Francis AND Mobley AND Cato AND Yao. How does THAT sound?

Umm i think its obvious he would sign an extension. Plus he doesn't want to do that to them (just leaving)

Sounds impossible. Assuming McGrady still wanted to come to Houston at that point, where would we find the money to hire him? We have no cap room. We can swing a S&T, but then we still have to trade away our guys (and the TE will have expired by then). Plus, in the meantime, Orlando won't sit on their hands to accomodate us; they'll try to find another taker. McGrady won't be willing to wait on us either. He's going to want a team and to be able to sign that extension (in case of injury, which is likely in his case). Of course, if we do make the trade now, we'd want McGrady to commit to the extension while we commit to the trade. Waiting isn't the way to go.

    Crazy. :)

Salary does need to match for both sides, one way or another.

Question for people that know the rules:

Is there anyway T-Mac can sign an extension with his new team before his opt-out year? I know someone mentioned taking out the opt-out clause of the contract, but can that be done?

    Yeah, what he said!!

Seriously, you get TMAC, Yao and you throw in a Barry, a Fisher, a McDyess, blah..blah...blah... I love Yao - most people know that. I believe with a Yao Ming on your team he's your focal point as much as possible...unless you have ANOTHER franchise player who can shoulder that burden - OH WAIT, there's McGrady!!

This thing may get good this summer. I've heard some talk of a three-way deal with another team (Not Boston) but have nothing 'concrete' (in BBS talk). Detroit gave us an excellent blueprint to follow. Don't forget, Detroit implemented their defensive scheme 3+ years ago. We put ours in last year. Add a Tmac and you're moving closer to being a CHAMPION not just a contender.

Play this right and we won't have to deal with the Duncans, the Shaqs, the Kobe's, etc...

........they'll have to deal with us!!

I kind of don't want to give up cat b/c of his D and slashing ability (that wasn't done enough)

With T-Mac you get plenty of slashing... you get plenty of made shots... you get plenty of free throws... you get him double teamed, and get wide open shots...

Most importantly, you make teams adjust TO YOU, not you to them (as was the case last year... when teams would front Yao, WE'd have to adjust).

Doc, are they actually gonna ask for that much, and get it also, for a player that wants out? or do u think the demands will go down as TMac says he wants out for sure??

yeah but i see why the Rockets are doing some bargaining (minor bargaining......maybe not Cat but definately someone else).... we could have all of those qualities, but at the 2 AND the 3

not to sound greedy or anything:D

For some reason, McGrady brings up images of Scottie Pippen. I dont know why. But I just got a bad feeling about McGrady and him having Gundy as his coach. Gundy don't take no shiznet. McGrady talks alot of it.

I don't know. But whatever. I am in the minority here.

Senior members pushing for McGrady. Too funny!!! one mentions, let me get this one right....

Detroit gave us an excellent blueprint to follow. Don't forget, Detroit implemented their defensive scheme 3+ years ago. We put ours in last year. Add a Tmac and you're moving closer to being a CHAMPION not just a contender.

Hmmmmm. Now how the heck is this similar to what Detroit did. They traded an injured Grant Hill for a center and a point guard. Then they added to their team by picking and choosing players that are long and athletic. They didn't pick up an injured superstar that DOESN'T play defense. They found players that think team first, not me first. They built a team that is deep and versatile. If we are following any team's blueprint, it is the Lakers. Heck, this reminds me of the Pistons/Magic trade but we are the Magic not the Pistons.

You guys want to trade our team for McGrady? Normally, I agree with a trade that will return to the Rockets the best player in the deal but I DO NOT AGREE WITH DOING WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET MCGRADY! We would be taking too much of a risk! Why would we have to give up so much. It is McGrady's choice. He will decide his future. McGrady will decide whether or not he wants to be a Rocket. If he wants to come to Houston, then the Rockets are in the driver's seat. Orlando CANNOT demand equal value. Orlando does not have leverage. Orlando's GM has painted himself in a corner. IT IS STUPID TO GIVE INTO Orlando's DEMANDS!

Francis, Mo, and Cato or Francis, Cat and Mo is plenty.

    SAY NO TO THIS TRADE!

Francis/Cato/Mobley trade is totally insane for McGrady. Yes, he is a superstar butr a superstar with back troubles. You're trading alot of depth with those three players and unless there's a third team in the mix to work a three way deal i'm not going for it.
You are giving way too much.
If it does go down i'de like us to go hard for derek fisher in FA. He fits perfectly with what Van Gundy wants out of a point guard.
As good as McGrady , I wouldn't trade three starters for even for Kobe Bryant.
I think the pistons proved it takes team basketball to win the
finals. I'd like us to improve our depth in all five positions. Maybe trade Taylor and Witherspoon and some of the other older players for some young energetic frontcourt players.

Three-way with TMac involved? A different deal?

    TMac is worth this deal.

I see a lot of people are afraid of what could happen if the Rockets trade their only tradable commodities on the team. The Detroit Pistons proved you don’t need a ton of tradable assets to acquire talent. Just take a look at how Dumars was able to assemble their team.

Chauncey Billups – signed for the MLE
Ben Wallace – a no-name player that was just thrown in the Grant Hill trade
Rasheed Wallace – they gave up pretty much nothing to acquire Rasheed
Tayshaun Prince – a late first round draft pick
Elden Cambell – free agent signing
Lindsay Hunter – journeyman point guard

The only player of value that they’ve had to give up was the Jerry Stackhouse for Rip Hamilton deal.

I don’t care if the Rockets have to gut their roster for Mcgrady, I have absolutely no fear of not being able to acquire complementary role players to fill out the rest of the roster.

If these deal goes through, we're only one TMac injury away from the lottery.

Folks, don't forget that the Sentinel article says that these are the ASKING PRICE from the Magic at this point. This is NOT what the Rockets OFFER. Assuming that the source is legit, we are talking about the MSRP. If you pay this price, you get the deal. If you negotiate a bit, you might get a better deal.

I'd do the trade as is. If CD could bargain to knock the price down a tad, it'd be gravy. Man, my hope shot up after seeing this report!
