There's a reason why this guy bounces from team to team. Me player. Doesn't care about wins as long as his box score looks good.
The NBA has 30 teams. 29 are failures every year if the standard is championship. There will always be more failures to point to have success stories. But if you look at a list of championship teams most were built around drafting a really good player in the top of the draft or using high draft picks to get good players. The best two teams in the West right now are teams that were built off not being good for several years and making good lottery picks.
Honestly, given how pathetic Jalen Green is defensively, it might make sense to make a trade for Ben Simmons. Toss them Gordon, Wood, and picks to get it done.
Too late. I’m pretty sure his value is nowhere near what we expect. The defense is exposed. His shooting isn’t where it used to be. His attitude is questionable. Members of the media like Lowe etc. have really soured on him. People were talking about grants value as just lower than Patrick Williams and maybe worth a prospect and first rounder. If Grant a better player, who’s played for winners, at a more desirable position is worth only that the return on wood will undoubtedly be lower. I see people quoting the Vuc trade. But chicago used that to catapult the offseason. I don’t know if desperate teams like charlotte (Plummer) blazers (nurkic) and kings ( Holmes) would be willing to make that deal and lose out on draft assets when it seems chicago did their trade knowing they had lonzo in the bag with cap maneuverability to boot.
Sign Wood to a Max extension he has earned it. 16-10 is nothing to sneeze at. Give him the 100m now...lock him up. DD
I think he could be a respectable 3rd banana on a contending team but I think it's very clear he can't be "the man" but then again that's why he is making just $13mil/year. His contract is a positive value relative to his production but unfortunately, Sabonis($18mil/yr) is ALSO on the trade block and offers even better value for the money so really this is more about market than value and Sabonis' asking price will largely set the value on Wood and I imagine the market of people willing to lose assets for Wood is restricted to playoff teams who think they are one stretch 4 away from making a splash in the playoffs. I think Sabonis probably has a slightly larger market because he is under contract a year longer than Wood and doesn't come with the same attitude but again it's largely dependent on what the GMs are asking for in return.
The hidden bonus with wood being a “me” player is that it will be his contract year and he will be playing hard consistently to make that $
I just want to turn Wood into a top 12 pick. Gordon into Frp. Draft Holmgren and then trade up for Griffin. Sengun/Garuba Holmgren/KMJ Griffin Green Christopher 7 man core to build around.
The way I look at it, Wood is an asset that we need to convert into something of value for our rebuild. We should be able to get a first round pick for him. As far as filling the front court void? more minutes for Sengun; enough said. More min for Teis (who is actually a good player, good defender, and a good model for our young guys -can also shoot) KJ Martin can actually play some minutes at the 4 and the more confidence he gets the better he’s gonna be. also it would be good to see what we have in Garuba
This would probably be the 2nd most lopsided, Rocket favored trade of all time, right behind trading Jeremy Lamb, a protected pick and Kevin Martin for Harden.
I had to read it four times to make sure it wasn't coming from a Rockets writer/fan. If that's what the NBA world thinks Wood is worth then Stone needs to find a deal fast before they all realize he's fool's gold.
