Breaking 1-06-21: MAGA terrorist attack on Capitol

How dare they try to politicize AN ATTEMPTED COUP.

 

Only 39 people. That's a small percentage of the number that took part in the January 6th sedition.

I have no problem had the government pushed forward with charges if they had the evidence.

But the two incidents had very key differences. Those causing damage on Trump's inauguration day weren't trying to prevent democracy from happening, they weren't threatening to kill the VP. They weren't being organized by members of the administration.

 

It is pure luck that out of thousands of people who stormed the capitol, one did not have an explosive or a gun. Yes, each of them made a choice. It is pure luck they didn’t choose otherwise. It is pure luck that one of them was not a murderous trumper or a gun nut angry about the election. These zealots showed crap judgment and bad intent by storming the capitol. Pure luck that they didn’t go one step further. Had they actually located a democratic lawmaker, the mob probably would have attacked.

It would not be strange to open fire on angry people forcibly entering the Capitol building, chanting threats against lawmakers, threatening to hang pence, kill pelosi or others. In fact, killing Babbitt was entirely justified. the black cop in the stairwell that led the insurrectionists in other directions while senators fled - had he been forced to stop, draw his weapon and open fire for fear of his own safety or those he protected, that would not have been surprising and would have been totally justified. Had the police stood and fought while overwhelmed and melee ensued, shooting would have been justified and necessary.

In contrast, it would be surprising to open fire in response to the George Floyd protests you seem to want to equate it to. Because in that context, nobody was threatening to kill pence, pelosi or other lawmakers. But you knew that. So I would infer that you’re sufficiently upset about the protests from that summer that you want view them in the same light as the capitol insurreectionists, because that’s what you need to do.

also, note that Trump had entirely peaceful protesters forcibly removed from Lafayette square and tear gassed for his upside down Bible op. Not only are the two not equal, the actions in Lafayette square were disproportionately aggressive/forceful under those circumstances compared to the capitol insurrection.

 

The right is actually making things worse by passing state level election laws and inserting loyalist secretary of state.
