Cat - how is it that you hold Shandon's 6'6" height against him at SF, while not mentioning Mobley 6'3" size at SG? 6'4 actually. The growing trend in the NBA are the long SF's that are 6'9 and up, in the physical mold of someone like Terence Morris. These guys offensively have the capability to go down low and bang when needed, take the ball off the dribble, and shoot over smaller SF's such as Shandon. Examples of players such as this are Dirk Nowitzki, Eddie Griffin, Rashard Lewis, Jalen Rose, Tyson Chandler, Lamar Odom, Darius Miles, etc. Those type players are growing more and more popular in our NBA, and Shandon cannot consistently guard them. They are too physical, too strong, etc. Some SG's are like that to Cuttino, but the ratio imho is far smaller than that at SF. ------------------ Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. haven, i'll just name teams and list their shooting guards/sf, and why shandn could/couldn't get pt over them. as a matter of fact, let's just do the playoff teams, since they are really all that matters... LEASTERN CONFERENCE Miami Heat: Bruce Bowen: 1st of all, bruce is shandn will a cheaper contract. however, for pt purposes, i see bowen being a better player, because he has a more consistent shot. the defense is close to the same. Eddie Jones: starting SG. let's not even discuss this one. Cedric Ceballos: worse defender than shandn, but more valuable on the court for his baseline cuts to the basket and overall activity. still, he couldn't get ANY pt from riles. Dan Majerle: erratic shooter, still a good defender. if nothing else but for the "potential" and "respect" of him being dan majerle, i think majerle would get more pt than shandn. New York Knicks: Sprewell and Houston: let's move on to the next players. Glen Rice: still an above average shooter who can keep the defense honest. his "d" is porous. still, he'd be above shandn on the depth chart, since the knicks have to keep the lanes open for spree/houston. in order to do that, you must have a shooter. it's the very reason they acquired glen rice. Orlando Magic: Tracy McGrady: moving on to the next player... Darrell Armstrong: see McGrady, T. Grant Hill: when healthy, see Armstrong, D. & McGrady, T. Mike Miller: are you serious? Pat Garrity: are you serious? great shooter. big body. no contest. Dee Brown/Troy Hudson: tweeners at the 1 & 2 spots. play both positions frequently. shandn cannot play the 1/2. maybe the 2/3, but not the 1/2. for versatility reasons, shandn doesn't affect their minutes. Philadelphia 76ers: Allen Iverson: next... George Lynch: better rebounder than shandn. IMO, better defense than shandn. not a better shooter, per se than shandn, but knows his limitations better than shandn, thus making him more effective/efficient offensively than shandn. Jumaine Jones: better shooter. better nba body. more athletic. more upside. younger. more active. next... Aaron McKie: 6th man of the year. next... Kevin Ollie: shandn could probably get ollie's minutes, but how many minutes was that again??? Charlotte Hornets: Jamal Mashburn: next... Eddie Robinson: not even worth discussing... David Wesley: see robinson, eddie. Hersey Hawkins: the offensive presence he brings is worth more than shandn's alleged defense. their defense is predicated from the inside (campbell, pj brown). they can sacrifice a little perimeter "d" for a little perimeter "o". Indiana Pacers: Reggie Miller: ummm...let's not talk about this one. Jalen Rose: see Miller, Reggie Austin Croshere: plays 3 in a pinch. see above 2. Derrick McKey: same player as shandn, and he doesn't get much pt either. Jonathan Bender: would get more pt than shandn if for no other reason than developmental purposes. Al Harrington: beginning to come on. see Bender, Jonathan Milwaukee Bucks: Ray Allen: you're kidding, right? Glenn Robinson: *sigh* Tim Thomas: plays 3 in a pinch, and would be better there than shandn. could shandn be a 4th g/sf for the bucks??? possibly. give him 10 - 15 minutes, if he can beat out rafer "skip to my lou" alston. Toronto Raptors: Vince Carter: yea, shandn could beat out vince. Dell Curry: no way shandn beats out dell. mo pete couldn't beat out dell in the first few games of the playoffs, and you know he would beat out shandn. Morris Peterson: reference above post. in addition, mo pete has a killer j, decent defense, and tremendous upside. what is shandn's upside? he might learn to dribble??? Alvin Williams: played a lot of 2 - VERY EFFECTIVELY - in the playoffs this year. expect to see more of it next year. shandn has more size than alvin, but not even close the "J", quickness, or court awareness (former pg). Tracy Murray: i suppose in a game where curry is hot and vince is hot, shandn could take tracy murray's minutes. wait a minute...tracy murray wouldn't be playing. nevermind.... UP NEXT...THE WESTERN CONFERENCE... ------------------ here's a verse: hating this name is a full time job for me; shandon in the nba is highway robbery!

Shandon was a big part of our success last year and I feel that overall we will not be a better team, even with our new rookies, if we lose him. There is only one real 2 on our team, Cat. Francis shouldn't have to play 2 caus when he's not at the 1 he should be resting. We should have a depth at the offguard and Shandon gives us that. And don't give me this crap that Langhi can play the 2 caus whatever anyone says, Langhi sucks compared to Shandon. PLEASE!!! Not even worth comparing. I don't want some lanky white boy as my second option at the 2. T Mo will be too busy in the frontcourt. And Yall know that Shandon is among the most important five players we've got. If he doesn't work out, hell trade him, he's not Cato and can start at the 2 and is preety tradeable if you ask me. ------------------ Mr. President. No man thinks more highly than I of three legged cows. They deserve to live. On my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of reason. Cows with three legs are good. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth : three-legged cows are better. They are better because the meat on them is better. The steaks are more tender. Three-legged cows tend not to wander as much. These cows could be the symbol of our country. The world would look upon us with great respect. They will want our cows and pay good money for them. The cows could symbolize freedom and hard work and three legs are better than four. They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other.
"Cuttino played defense very comparable to Shandon's last year, and I'll guarantee you that Cuttino will defend SG's better than Shandon will defend SF's, which would be his only place on this team."...As much as i like cuttino, there is no way u can compare him defensively to shandon. Agreed, cat can play a little D when he really wants, but he concentrates much more on offense(and who can blame him?) And of course shandon has more trouble guarding SF than cuttino has SG, thats not his true position. But he did a decent job. "He may not be an 11th or 12th man, but he's no starter, and probably not a 6th or 7th man on playoff teams." NO Rocket fan can ever forget the Jazz teams that went on to the finals those 2 years. and i believe shandon was their first option off the bench, and he did a Damn decent job. Hey i am NOT goin to agree with some posters who have mentioned before that he should start over cat, because cat is just too valuable, and that is never going to happen. besides who would dare mess with steve and cats chemistry? but, i do think shandon also is valuable to this team. I think every rockets fan has noticed that whenever shandon plays well, we usually win. the dude hustles every second he is on the floor, and seems like he never tires. I mean, he off and running every time we get a rebound!! Just imagine this situation: its the end of the third quarter, or the beginning of the fourth, and u need get some defensive stops. And u put a lineup of: Steve Shandon T-Rock Eddie Dream You cant put up that many points against those guys. Also, Rudy is a coach who goes with a player thats playing well and shooting well, and that whats going to determine shandons minutes next year. i think he can find minutes if he is having a good shooting night. " do we want that potential blownup chemistry experiment on our team?" I cant see how having a guy like shandon can give us chemistry problems. i mean the guy does what u ask. The guy got benched over and over in the fourth quarter over moochie when he wasnt having a good shooting game, and still he is excited about coming back and playing with steve, moochie, and cat. i dont know about u guys but i was pretty excited about him and MO-T comments about comin back next year. one last thought, Eddie will complement shandons game. everybody agrees we can be a much better fast break team when steve doesnt have to worry about getting rebounds as much. and if Eddie can haul in some rebounds, and get the ball into steve's hands fast, u know shandon's alwyas going to be running and looking to finish... I think the Rockets would still be good without him, but they can be better with him... ------------------ Howdy Partner!
I stopped you there because you are comparing SA to other 2 guards, and it is my contention that if the Rockets felt they needed to win NOW, SA would start a the 3, so your comparisons don't pertain to the discussion. If Eddie Griffin is ready to start now, he is a complete aberration. Not many 19 year olds are ready to start for a NBA caliber playoff team. Shandon Anderson- if we need to win now. ------------------
um, he openly complained about feeling shut out of the offense. and did i see you type "the rest of his game in top shape"? as in ball handling, hitting a wide open jumper, and motion? his game was not tight. it was looser than hooker on main street. and he is not the only player on the roster who can lock up bigger 2s. i saw cat OUTPLAY vince carter. i saw cat OUTPLAY latrell sprewell as well (shandn was on allan houston). let's please stop overrating shandn defense. truthfully, i can only think of ONE good defensive performance by shandn and that was a game at the Laptop against philly, where allen iverson shot somethin' horrid. the problem is...allen iverson OFTEN shoots somethin' horrid. he's a jacker who is either going to be hot or going to be cold. there really is very little the defense does to stop once he has the ball. tyronn lue was effective against AI because he denied him the ball. AI still got the ball playing against shandn. he just missed his shots. is that a credit to shandn's defense? i don't think so, considering AI is FAR from a great shooter. dude shot close to 40% from the field last year. other than that questionable stalwart defensive effort, i can't think of times where shandn has "put the clamps" on someone. let me dispel a myth: THERE ARE NO 6'5 AND UNDER DEFENSIVE STOPPERS. NONE. defensive stoppers are almost always post players since they have the size and height to change shots. most guards that are considered good defenders, you will notice, have post players that are pretty decent defenders behind them. because of that, they can gamble more. that gambling is what earns them the label of "good defender." it's a farce. and before someone says it, let me dispel this one: gary payton rides the offensive player like a freak'n horse jockey. dudes d*ck is almost in their aiish when he "bodies up". his reputation allows him to do that. any other player would be either on the bench, or in jail with a sodomy charge. ------------------ here's a verse: hating this name is a full time job for me; shandon in the nba is highway robbery!
