There is a reason why no one has named any of those as top 5.:p

Newhart,I could see but those others were very mediocre to good and I watched them all.

    Underrated newer sitcoms

The Goldbergs (Big Tasty cracks me up)
    Brooklyn Nine Nine
    Archer
    Fresh off the Boat
    Broad City

    My current top 5
What we do in the shadows.
    Curb
    Nora from Queens
    The Wonder Years
Atlanta ( more of a dramedy)

I am really surprised no one else named The Modern Family. I guess it's not as popular as I thought it was. Regardless I really liked it I thought it was real clever. Of course I'm kind of lame.

It was a clever premise and I watched it for about 2 seasons but it started being very stale and went to the same well much too often, It is definitely not a top 5 type of comedy.

Top 5 premise and very amusing at times but nothing historic IMO.

I think it may be too hard to limit myself to just 5...

    Fairly current:
    The Office
    Parks and Rec
The Good Place (which had probably one of the best series finales ever)

    90's/early 2000s:
    Seinfeld
    Friends
    Everybody Loves Raymond
    Fresh Prince

    Classic:
    Cheers
    MASH

I'll throw an honorable mention to Big Bang Theory. I never watch it faithfully in the time of streaming, but I did love the show.

I'm also not including animated shows cause that's a whole other list!

Here's my take: You don't research for yourself. You just listen to CNN.

For me, in order for a show to qualify it has to hold up over time. A lot of great comedies just aren't funny anymore.
Example..I cannot watch The Cosby Show. It was super funny when I was a kid, but now all the jokes seem either telegraphed or just hokey.

These are the Shows I can still watch and they still make me laugh:

    I Love Lucy
    MASH
    The IT Crowd
    My Name Is Earl
    The Office

    Parks & Rec
    The Office
    The Simpsons
    Futurama
    M*A*S*H

Honorable mention: HIMYM, Newsradio, Ted Lasso (3 seasons just isn't long enough), Silicon Valley, King of the Hill
