Solid 3 & D role player is his ceiling. Should be a good asset on his new contract as every time wants these guys now.
He's not actually a good defender though. He takes charges which is great of course. But he's not guarding anyone one on one and making that much of a difference.
None of the above. He should try more on defense. It's his calling card apart from the streaky 3 pointers. For 2M per year, there's not much you can expect but it'll be good if he'll improve more.
True. But that’s what I think his ceiling is in the NBA should he ever reach it. He’s a high energy guy with an above average 3 point shot right now. Still good value even if he never expands his game from this point on.
This is 100%. Anyone who saw Lavert take him over and over again last night know exactly what his ceiling is. A good role player off the bench and nothing more. Comes in to provide energy.
He makes an excellent point. This is how House lost himself. Thinking he could be more than a spot up shooter and defender. We started seeing the wild forays to the basket where he’d fall down and the awkward step back 3 pointers. Trying to do too much. Trying to do things he was incapable of doing in an attempt to expand his game. Gary Mathews needs to realize he has no upside lol. Not trying to be mean or funny here. He has one NBA skill which is shooting. His next best skill is he tries really hard. Just do those 2 things.
Matthews should make it simple. Just utilize his strength. Look for his spots and launch the 3s. As long as he's open, he doesn't need to mind missing it. It will eventually fall down.
This team really misses him....his gritty D and timely 3pt shooting. We need another defender to pair with Tate, to help out the rest of the team. DD
Matthews was a heck of an addition and Im glad they picked him up. He definitely has his hot streaks last night for instance. Now the "Gary Bird" title I figured had to be just tounge and cheek, but 56 people voted his ceiling to be not just Larry Birdish SMH, but... Jordan?! I would love to get both of their takes on that one. C'mon peoples.
