According to his statement, it was to prevent them from being misused. Why does it matter? The fact that he had zip ties was being touted as evidence that he had entered the Capitol with the intent to capture members of Congress. If he didn't have the zip ties when he entered (which he didn't) then the zip ties are not proof of anything to do with his reason for entry. The fact is, he was recording his whole trip through the Capitol and all he did was walk around, pick up zip ties that were left on a cabinet, say he wanted a gavel (but made no move to take said gavel) and tell people not to hurt anyone or break anything. What a dangerous man. Surely he deserves the death penalty.

Why do you never use (at least in posts of yours I read) his quote where he says "we ain't playing ****ing nice"?

if you break into the capitol, sorry but the presumptions about your intent are against you. And what Bobrek said. Every last judge should make example of all these assholes and dumbasses. Maximum punishment. Leave no doubt. They are lucky that law enforcement didn’t open fire and kill hundreds of them.

because post insurrection, he was still calling for violence and war. He is a continuing threat to the country and public officials and should be detained. And made and example of.

Nichols, a former U.S. Marine, faces 13 different charges related to his participation in the riot. He allegedly showed up to the riot with a crowbar, pepper spray and bullhorn.

"If you have a weapon, you need to get your weapon," he allegedly told the crowd of rioters.

Because it seems like tough guy posturing. The other statements are consistent with his actions. Again, the prosecutors have his recording of everything he said and did. All they have on him is that he went somewhere he wasn't supposed to and had a taser that he never used, never even unholstered.
We don't need to make presumptions, because they have a recording of everything he did, which was a lot of nothing. He wasn't even a rioter, he was a trespasser armed with a taser. There were rioters in the Capitol that battered police officers. There were people who stole computers. There were people that caused great bodily injury. Those people should be getting hefty prison sentences. Guys like this, who committed the heinous crime of walking around and looking at stuff, picking up discarded plastic zip-ties, should get credit for time served on a misdemeanor trespass.

One of the dumbest conspiracy theories I’ve ever heard of. Yes the Dems and the FBI organized an attack on themselves that was intended to delay the certification of an election they won and intentionally put themselves face to face with people with bear mace and crowbars.

All so they could gum up the DC court system for years for 6 month to 2 year jail sentences to pay back people who didn’t vote for them.

And let’s just look over the fact that we actually have as evidence freaking power point presentations from the White House detailing the plan to do what they attempted to do.

You guys just give yourself no accountability in life I swear. If you show up 30 minutes late for work and your boss gets on you do you tell him that Pelosi called a CIA agent down to your house in Friendswood to cut the gas line of your car because the secret drone they keep on top of your house watching you through the window caught you watching FoxNews the night before???

I mean talk about a nanny state. Grow up.

Pretty eye opening seeing how close Fox News and the Trump admin was…. But not all that surprising.

GOP purging moderates and Fox News purging moderates.

This picture is proof that birds are not what we think they are. They are setting up a camera to watch us.

If the birds are doing that then you know the Dems are behind it. Worldwide fake flu, tricking the cunning trump cult during Jan.6. There is no stopping them.

if you want to let these guys off easy, that’s your deal. If you want to brush this off as an ordinary trespass, like he walked into a high school gym, go ahead. But let’s not kid ourselves.

But this was no ordinary trespass of an ordinary building on a regular day. Every prosecutorial and judicial discretion should be exercised against every one of them, to the fullest extent. The trumpers will certainly mass again, or do you think they’ve learned their lesson because Donald is backing off? No, all you need to look at is his more recent message to his cult. These zealots will mass again and we need to make clear to these idiots that the repercussions will be very real.

look at all the posters on here defending domestic terrorists. yall spend way more time complaining about their treatment ("gulag?" - are you f***ing serious with that garbage???) and saying how they did nothing wrong...but you have very little if anything to say about the fact that they participated in an insurrection that the president of the united states incited.

yall are more mad that people who tried to overthrow our government are going to jail for a few months than the fact that they tried to overthrow our government.

Part of supporting law and order is supporting recognition of what the laws are, what the appropriate penalties for breaking each law are, and recognizing that the law should not be applied differently because of how one feels about a particular defendant or crime.
