Does Kid Rock know the difference between America the Beautiful and The Star Spangled Banner? He sang the wrong song before game four started. I've never seen that happen before. Certainly not living up to Detroit's music standards.
i thought he was supposed to sing america the beautiful before the tip of game 4. thats what the folks over at abc were saying. i went to a few college graduations here over the past week and in years past it was the star spangled banner but this year at every graduation america the beautiful was sung. i dont know maybe its some new trend because its a shorter song or something but i dont think Rock was mistaken when he sang it. he sang it pretty decently too i was half expecting him to head bang while singing
I hope you're kidding. I always wondered if I could make it as a lead singer. Now I know without a doubt it's possible.
Finally something different to start a sporting event! The Star Spangled Banner is the most overplayed song in history.
Personally I don't know why it is compulsory to sing either of them, there is no discernible connection between the national anthem and a professional sporting event other than that's the way it is, but anyway I don't see anything wrong with a little variety here and there.
Aretha at least knew which song to sing tonight.... although I didn't really like her rendition. It doesn't bother me at all that Kid Rock sang the wrong song. I just think it is embarassing to the City of Detroit that he didn't seem to know what he was doing. Kinda like the Superbowl halftime show where he ticked off a lot of people by wearing a US flag as a poncho (not that I cared about that incident either, which was completely overshadowed by Janet Jackson's bare breast).
Aretha is awesome. However--and maybe I haven't been around for enough opening programs--but that was the most God-awful rendition I've ever heard in my life. Even with the backup singers and music, it sounded like a herd of caribou being driven over a cliff. The weird part is I could swear she was lip-syncing. That's completely counterintuitive--that someone would lip-sync such a horrible performance--but that's what it sounded--and looked like.
what i found funny with aretha's rendition (now dont get me wrong here, she is an amazing singer) was that like she didnt wanna end it. she said home of the brave and like all the pistons and most of the lakers started headed for the bench and just kept singing over and over home of the brave like 5 more times. was hoping abc would show the starting lineups again, i know that mason guy is annoying but its pretty pumping for me at home to see the lakers get booed the hell out
lol who else noticed this? When I first saw her, I was like "is she lip-synching?", what would be the reason for Aretha Franklin lip-synching? I mean, what was the purpose of going that route and not sing it live? I could understand Britney Spears, but Aretha? Strange, but funny.
