Alarming surge’ in anti-Asian violence across US terrifies community members

I know where Turkey is. Don't be ridiculous. I know it's governed by a corrupt, wannabe autocrat, who's busy trying to stay in power by turning the secular member of NATO into an Islamic Republic, with Mr. Erdogan as president until Hell freezes over.

He's been busy sucking up to Putin's Russia, Russia historically an enemy of Turkey. The Lira, Turkey's currency, has lost half it's value over the last year thanks to his absurd economic policies. The educated class of Turkey can't stand the guy. Women's rights are under threat. He's attempting to do to the Eastern Mediterranean what Xi in China is attempting in the South China Sea. Steal the oil and gas under the sea bed from the countries it belongs to according to international law. Anything else you want to know?

I actually like @tinman. What bugs me is when he makes sweeping statements about the members who post down here, almost always negative. I'll add that just because some of them (and far from all) don't often post in the basketball forums doesn't mean that they don't read them. As I said earlier, the Rockets brought them here. They became fans of the team, or they were already a fan of a player who ended up here. Nothing wrong with that, either way. Not everyone discovered the San Diego Rockets, like I did, because they drafted Elvin Hayes.

Heck, I started reading the BBS in the Spring of 1999, when I did a search for info about the Rockets. It was 3 years before I decided to join, but it's also why I know a lot of the history of this place. The Mall Guy, Popeye, @Clutch changing the name of the BBS. He shut things down and I was briefly in a panic. Where would I find a place as good as this one to read about the Rockets? One with about 3600 people? Amazing!

As for why you don't receive the responses here that you might like to get, @tinman, I can guess of a few of possible reasons. Some members who might be interested are put off by those "sweeping statements" I mentioned. Some who might be interested could currently have more interest in, or be distracted by "life." You know, what we do outside of this little world. Some could have more interest in the Rockets, believe it or not, even if they aren't posting there. One of the most obvious is that this has come up before, and has been discussed before, often within threads of a more general nature. Maybe you should consider doing a search. There might be a thread you could bump.

Just some thoughts. Thanks for the complement earlier, @tinman. I didn't deserve it.

Today while pumping gas, a redneck rolled down her window as she was driving out and screamed a bunch of stuff I couldn't make out but I did here the last shout of, "go back to where you came from!" - I guess they don't like people from NOLA in cocoa beach, FL.

What's funny though, and what made me really laugh, was a woman pumping gas on the other side, who said, "How rude! What do they mean, go back to where you came from? I don't understand". I just responded that it's not worth trying to make sense of stupid people. But then she said, "That's so uncalled for, why we're all Republicans here"

I laughed hard, and she thought she was funny and so laughed along. Ah, you gotta love the boonies of Florida.
