As the OP let me say this about Silas. After drafting Sengun, of the many reasons I listed why he will have success, Silas was one of them. The reason is because how well Kelly Olynyk played in his system, and I thought Sengun could be used in a similar way. Largely that has come to pass, as much as we rave about how well Sengun is playing, it is all happening in Silas's system. He is being used the right way, in the minutes that he's allowed to play. That's the crux of the disagreement, his minutes, but Silas should be given credit for the way they are playing Sengun, even if it's just giving him the ball and getting out of his way. With that said, what triggered me to make this thread was the 5 minute game. You could have made an argument that we are slowly building Sengun up, that's the reason for the low minutes, and I would have been ok with playing him in a backup role all year long, as long as it is clear that his development is of the utmost importance. He is the KEY piece to this team. But the game that coach only played him 5 minutes showed me that Sengun's development is an afterthought, and that's just unacceptable. I never got on the bandwagon of Silas being a terrible coach, I always thought that he was being hamstrung by personel the last two years, and with that lineup change I think it's proven that he is a competent coach. But it is critical that the coach, the gm, anyone in the organization understands who is the centerpiece of this team and prioritize his development, that is my biggest gripe. Perhaps coach had some preconceived notions of Sengun coming in and needed more convincing before trusting him, I'm ok with that as long as they figure it out in the end. It just irks me when during training camp an interviewer asks Silas if he saw any of that Luka/Steph/Lebron magic in Jalen, and Silas was talking about all of their abilities to see the game faster and ahead of everyone else even when they were rookies, I'm screaming in my head : open your eyes Silas, that's Sengun!
Just when I wanted to say something nice about the coaching staff, this is the sht that made me make this thread to begin with. Now tell me about Jalen Green's defense and why he plays 35 minutes a night. I don't mind coachs benching or criticizing Sengun, he does have a long way to go to his ceiling and I don't want him to be complacent, I want him to be pushed. But the hypocrisy of this organization is vomit inducing. Grow some fking balls and bench Green if you want to ever mention defense again. Oh wait, he's going right back to his comfy starting spot. Starting Green over Matthews, after all that he's done, all that both have done, is a slap in the face to every player and teammate that is working hard and busting their ass. Here's your reward, right here on the bench. Entitled punk gets your spot handed on a silver platter. Disgusting.
I believe race is a factor. I've always said that. I don't think it's a "we want green to be Roy". I used to think that , but....... If sengun was black ...............
I think it's the exact opposite. I think mediocre players of "other" decent get put on imaginary pedestals here, like Sengun, Dmo & ofcourse Jeremy Lin. A poster here recently projected Sengun to be a top 5 player in the nba (Lmaooooooo). He is NOT that good lol. The guy can pass and has post game, but his defense sucks. Silas can't play a guy who racks up fouls that quickly. You're DELUSIONAL
JOKIC IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE AND GETS TREATED BY NBA media like he doesnt exist. Imagine if an american born player was putting up jokics stats.. it would be steph curry who????? the media has put all their eggs in one basket hoping that zion was next up. Turns out its not looking good why is the nba so afriad to market jokic it would be like the mlb being afraid to market shohei ohtani
Whoops I just remembered that theis is white. So I guess the coaches philosophy is to bench good white players (sengun) in favor of crappy white players(theis) Lol Only other rational explanation is that theis is starting cuz he's being showcased. Since we brought up garuba from vipers then theis starts same day, that might explain it . Or, they have something personal against sengun and his dad lol
Maybe they have nothing personal against Sengun but are taking an approach of slowly introducing him into the starting lineup and being tough on him publicly because they believe it will help his development, whether we agree with that or not. I don’t think there’s anything racial about the decisions.
Oh, it'll backfire on them. If you say sb's got a long way to go, you have to at least share a few points why. Otherwise it's just the opinion of a man and deserves no respect.
I’m positive that Lucas has a positive relationship with Sengun. His main focus is player development. He knows Sengun has the potential on defense to improve and he’s pretty strong on offense so he’s hard on him when he might not be to another player. You know the tactic of coaches and teachers to draw potential. How the fans see the comments and how Sengun sees them may be different.
You do not come out and say it like that, when the player's the only one that came to play in a blowout. There's a balance - you give props and you criticize. Improving?? F--- that. I think Lucas just went back to his coaching days and got too mic-happy. Someone should say Lucas is getting over his drug habit little by little. After all it's been what, 37 years since he was waived for failing drug tests?
I don't have any problem with what Lucas said about Sengun. I have a problem with the hypocrisy when it comes to Jalen Green and Sengun. Sengun is FAR more advanced, FAR better player, on both sides of the ball. Where is the criticism after AWFUL games, where is the tough love, where is the taking it slow approach? Instead he criticizes Sengun after a career night? Yeah I got a problem with that.
I don't think this is racially motivated by the coaching staff. But this mfer here is absolutely one racist little b****.
Language barrier could b a factor y the coach doesn't trust him. Orders from above to play green a sht ton of mins. Stamina, sengun seemed to b worn out from today. But yea silas needs to grow some balls or a set or brains and give more mins to sengun
I'm torn. Sengun is being mistreated in terms of minutes and praise when Green is getting good things said about him even after awful, AWFUL, games. But I do like how Sengun is being used whenever hes actually on the court, the coaches must have respect for his game to use him like that, as he focal point. Maybe it's just the #2 pick shine that's still being put on a pedestal, I don't like it, but as long as Sengun is being developed the right way the cream will always rise to the top.
There's a saying, iron is made into a needle by beating and pounding. You can sht on Sengun and treat him unfairly, he will be the one that turns into the needle. The one you coddle and prize just may turn into sht.
