I for one think that Garrison Mathews looks like a nice kid who in no way would engage in the behavior that you’re suggesting. Also Scola literally looks whiter than a lot of folks from Southern Europe, so...
https://sports.yahoo.com/report-rockets-exploring-trades-clear-215445372.html Recent sensation Garrison Mathews — best known to some as “Garry Bird,” or “Garry Legend” — is currently on a two-way contract, which runs for only one season and limits him to 50 games at the NBA level. Understandably, the Houston Rockets would like to change that. Per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, general manager Rafael Stone is already exploring moves to free up a roster spot, which could then be used to award Mathews with a standard NBA contract. The Houston Rockets are searching for trades that would clear a roster spot to convert two-way standout Garrison Mathews to their 15-man roster, according to league sources. Veterans DJ Augustin, Danuel House Jr., Daniel Theis and Eric Gordon are all viewed around the league as viable trade candidates. Houston appears willing to listen to offers on Christian Wood, but that would require a first-round pick plus further capital. The good news for the Rockets is that because Mathews began the 2021-22 season in the G League, he won’t reach the 50-game mark — even if he plays in every NBA game from here on out — until early March. Thus, Stone will have plenty of time to create a roster spot, and all the way to this season’s February trade deadline and beyond. Nonetheless, with Mathews emerging as a consistent starter of late, it certainly can’t hurt for Stone to start exploring the possibilities early. Moreover, with Houston undoubtedly hoping to secure Mathews on a multi-year deal, there’s an argument to be made that he might be more willing to sign a team-friendly deal earlier in the process. That would give Mathews an earlier raise on his current 2021-22 salary and eliminate the risk of him playing his way into a bigger financial demand down the line. In his last 10 games (nine starts), Mathews is averaging 15.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 33.0 minutes, including 48.0% shooting from the field, 42.0% on 3-pointers, and only 0.2 turnovers per game.
It would be hilarious if the assistant coaches of the NBA actually selected Mathews for the game. Wonder what would happen if he's still on a two-way, that's probably a bad look for the league, and really highlights how exploitative allowing for 2-ways to get 50 games played is. ...also, because he's a 3rd year player, and ineligible for Rising Stars, so the only way he's getting selected to the game is if no one in the league or other teams is actually paying attention to the Rockets this year and forgets. If hardcore Rockets fans can overlook it, I'm guessing at least a few coaches might overlook it too.
Price going down. Teams are playing up on him and not giving him clean looks and he hasn’t been able to put the ball on the floor effectively enough to make them pay for over playing his shot. Only gone 2-17 on his most recent 3 point attempts. Let’s see how he adjusts. Obviously he wasn’t as good as his hot streak had him looking and not nearly as bad as this cold streak. Reverting to the mean most likely.
Mathews had the lowest of expectations, got hot and teams adjusted. Now? He will be lucky to get consistent minutes once Green and Porter return.
I honestly was expecting this. he was dealing everyone cus no one had him in their scouting reports, and now that people know what he's doing and how to play him he's not getting it done. I was laughing at all the "gary bird" ****. I am also interested in seeing how he adjusts.
Teams played up on him in games that he made them. He is just going on a cold streak or perhaps he was just on his best streak possible at the right time for him. His 2-17 isn't because of teams completely changing how they defending him. Calling him Gary Bird is a little overboard but he definitely can be a nice rotation piece and possible 6 man.
