My church's pastor lives in a house a few blocks from me and its a similar size house...so we're good.

When I lived in Austin, the church I went to posted their financials for their expansion plans and total budget so that everyone had a good number at how much they needed to take in every year.

The pastors didn't live in homes that you could only take pictures from a drone.

And I really don't dismiss all the good religious and non profit do, but my original comment was more a strong jab at the larger system and the blurring of the lines.

Unfortunately the bad ruin for it the good as it seems like we are decreasing transparency.

My dad keeps trying to get me to classify properties as churches so he can duck taxes. He's also obsessed with buying land in opportunity zones.

Geez, generalize much? I know you're probably one of the many these days that are at war with Christianity (and religion in general), but not all churches are run by charlatans and sneaks. Churches and other places of worship donate a lot for charitable causes.

Property taxes is why the whole "Texas doesn't have a state income tax" BS line is out of wack.

I pay over $1200 per month just to live in the house I own in property taxes.....lol - I mean....

I'm not at war with Christianity (as if one person can wage a war).

But I am against the unregulated giveaways that are clearly being abused. Most of the time it's obviously not at this extreme a level, but even the small stuff adds up.

So do lots of people, do they get to avoid paying property tax? Is donating really for the better good if it gives you a big tax break?

I probably am still touchy from the hack job the media did and continues to do after Uri. “Expose” reporting regularly looks sus to me.
