What do y'all do for Christmas morning breakfast? My dad always made us pancakes so that's what I've always done for my kids, but I've found that this removes me from the morning's activities too much. So I'm trying to think of what else to do. I could always pop in some Pillsbury cinnamon rolls but that's just too easy and not special enough. So what do y'all do? And what would you recommend? I don't mind preparing the dish the night before or even waking up extra early to make something, I just don't want the meal prep to overlap with the other stuff. I think I would prefer it to be something sweet. That is, something not built around bacon/sausage/etc, since that is our usual fare.
We do beneigts every Christmas morning - little messy, but pretty easy and kids love it. Cool tradition.
We never had a ritual for food but wish we had........our ritual was waking up the folks and running downstairs to open presents, we got to open one while the folks got coffee and then it was go time. Kind of sad now but as we got older and everyone had kids its turned into handing out gift cards in lieu of real gifts
What's cooking for Christmas? There's a debate going on in House Turgidson, so I figured I'd ask all yall.
UPDATE: I bought a fancy Breville Waffle Maker a while ago so the answer is now waffles. Mix the dry ingredients the night before and just add in the wet ingredients in the morning. Mix. Then use the waffle maker to make 4 waffles at the same time in ~45 seconds. Boom. Use remaining batter to make another 4 and you're all done.
Not sweet but how would a Brisket biscuits and gravy casserole be? Make it all the day before except for the eggs and gravy. Pour the eggs with some baking powder mixed in over everything and bake in the morning. Add gravy. I was smoking a brisket this morning and started craving biscuits and gravy with eggs. Might be bad but it was all I could think about for a bit this morning
Always pancakes. Sometimes I make some beignets. Also, I would be foolish to miss this opportunity: Egg Man & Saucy Boy. Two Hot Coffees.
Chilaquiles... easy, fast, and muy delicioso. You could also just cook up scrambled eggs with chorizo.
How does one make beignets? I ask because we're doing Cajun Christmas...I just ordered my Hebert's turducken with crawfish stuffing. I'll be making the shrimp/crab/andouille/okra gumbo. Mom makes the best bread pudding on earth. But about those beignets?
Cafe du Monde sells a mix in a box with instructions that even idiots like me can follow I buy it at Randall's, and I'm sure you can find it in most grocery stores...or online.
