I apologize if this has been adressed here recently, but spyware and adware, amongst other things, are just destroying my computer! It constantly freezes, applications won't work, pop-ups assault me everytime I go online. I've got other computer problems too, like my disk defrag and scan disk not working properly (or at all!), but I'm pretty sure the spyware thing is causing a problem for everything.

My question is does anyone know of free spyware removal online that can help me get rid of this mess? I've seen plenty of free scans, but the removal costs money via buying the complete product. IF there aren't any free REMOVAL programs, are there any good programs out there worth the money spent of them?

    Thanks in advance....

Don't buy one, the program Faos posted is free and works well too. You can also try Spy Bot Search and Destroy which also free

    842 pop-ups blocked by google.

    i have an ad-aware question.

after deleting infected files, they are put into a quarantine list. can i delete these as well?

after i do a search, i pretty much highlight "all objects" then i remove them.

i still have a few problems here and there, but that it to be expected on a PC running ME

I've had a few get through. I heard on the Kim Komando computer show yesterday that the people making pop-ups are finding ways to beat the pop-up blockers. It's up to the Googles and others to keep updating the blockers.

If you want eerything to be free. Try these:

Google bar - block the popups
Adaware - get rid of advertising and tracking components
    Zonealarm - firewall
    AVG - anti-virus scanner

A combination of these programs will do a good job for you.

I used AdAware and still have a problem. On all the sites certain words are hyperlinks to ads. When I open a new window, I get pop-ups too. Know how to fix it?

It sounds like you have a virus. Do you have any up-to-date anti-virus software? AVG anti virus is free and works.

Then run ad-aware and spybot search and destroy, and use the Mozilla Firefox browser to access the internet.

You can block pop ups with a tool like edexter. It changes your "hosts" file. You can get a toggle to turn it back off.

There are other masking tools you can use. You might also go to a firewall or software proxy.

okay adware and spyware are the worst things to ever happen to computers. i just don't friggin' get it. it really pisses me off. why did some people spend time to program these things? they should be illegal!! why aren't they regulated?

some of them are just vicious... then run on startup, can't be deleted... write themelves into the registry, and then pop up at random times to download more spyware. it makes me angry to think about it.

i use spybot, CWS shredder, and popup blocker. but they won't catch everything.

There isn't a single fix all program.

Use a combination of Adaware and Spybot Search & Destory. Be sure to check for updates to the libraries, and be sure to use Spybot to immunize your compter.

If you use IE aas your bowser, stop and switch to Firefox because you will always have problems if you don't.

If you insist on doing the hard thing and stick with IE, run a program called Hijack This.

All of the programs I mentioned are absolutely free.

They tried but its very problematic. It's difficult to distinguish in terms of drafting legislative language between useful items like cookies, automatic updates, and other helpful programs and spyware, popups etc.

no need for it to be illegal when it can be stopped so easily with free software.

I use Firefox (free) as my web browser, immunized my pc with Spybot Search & Destroy (free, run Adaware (free), use Norton Anti-Virus (not free, but there are free ones out there, such as AVG) with automatic live-updates, and always download Windows Updates.

I never have spyware on my computer, never have a virus, and have never have browser hijacked. The worst I ever get is tracking cookies (non-hurtful. They just report your browsing habits), which I delete every couple of weeks with Adaware.

It's all incredibly easy and you can save yourself a lot of stress if you follow my advice.

Damn this is pissing me off. I used Ad Aware, Spybot, and Spy Sweeper. It cleaned out most of the stuff, but I still am getting pop-ups and random words being hyperlinks to ads. With Spyhunter, it says I have "PeopleOnPage/Apropos" and "DiFuCA"
    Free version doesn't repair

    Help?

If you read my post I mentioned that if you use IE you should run a program called Hijack This.

Your browser has been "hijacked". If Hijack This doesn't work let me know.

Or you could just switch to Firefox and you'll never have to worry about that happening.

I used hijackthis as well. Here's a few that look suspicious:
    NvCplDaemon
    Updreg
    nwiz.exe
    Bakra, IEHost.exe
    Plugin for .spop NPDoxBox.dll
    HKLM\System\CCS\Tcpip...NameServer=
