After going down the internet rabbit hole, I discovered Kanter is part of an influential Turkish religious organization called the Gülen movement (think Scientology but larger). They used to be allied with Erdogan and helped him with purging his competitors in the past by using their power and reach. Eventually they had a falling out and tried to overthrow Erdogan to take control of the country, but failed and got banned in Turkey as a result. The Gülen leader, who is worth $10-50 BILLION, now lives in a compound in Pennsylvania and is buddy buddy with Kanter, and this is why Kanter is critical of the Turkish regime. Well according to Wikipedia, Lin's maternal grandmother emigrated from mainland china to Taiwan, so it's likely that Lin has extended family members in mainland China.

You know America to Yao is only geography. His heart, soul and body belong to mother Red China. He played all those Olympics for the CCP even though his body was jacked, and he also thinks Tibet belongs to China. Yao is like a giant Panda on loan from the CCP.
