you may be just goofing around, but I see a Kyle Lowry 2.0. in JC
Lowry was in the core of championship team.

It's vibes, but also the hefty posterior... Both drafted #24... :)

If he expects a max contract then trade him. He is very good. Not arguing that. But offense is not all that matters. He is terrible at defense, terrible at shooting free throws, sub-par from the 3, and rebounding. Just averaging a double double doesn't equate to a max contract.

KPJ dropped 50 pts in a game, but just bc he had 1 amazing game doesn't mean I'd pay him max contract. Same rational for Wood. Consistency is hard.

I dont have a trade lined up. Thats not my job. But maybe trading wood when his value is high would net us a top 3 pick. But i know paying wood max contract is not a smart move. If he's willing to accept less then yes. You would pay him max contract?

Wood is AVERAGING a double double, this is not a 1 game thing. Tonight he was big again. He's young, athletic and skilled....pay him!

If you trade him, who could replace him? Sengun, Chet, Paolo? I like Sengun too but a team needs SEVERAL good players to compete and Wood is one

Exactly what I've been thinking about Christopher in the future but he's bigger than Kyle ....

    @D-rock

You had asked where I heard Wood didn't want to defend the 5 ....If you listen to tonight's (12-5-21) post game exit interview with Cayleigh Griffin You'll hear Wood explain "just what we signed him for"(Theis) - being defending opposing 5's.

That's not the end all be all but it is supportive of what I had repeated in the past .... and its straight from Wood's mouth.

    I'm hoping this happens.

But it took Lowry several seasons to become the Lowry he is right now (nevermind in his prime).

    Thanks man!!!

Defend 5's is what I hoped he would do too.

But he is not much better at defending BIG centers as Wood. I think Wood is actually better because he can actually get a block or 2.

Theis is much better switching on smaller players however.

    Just not elite at anything.

He is a pro's pro and my dislike is not personal, he is just not a great fit because this Rockets team plays best when it plays small and spreads floor with 3ball threats and closeout killers from EVERY position.

Plus Wood and Sengun need their minutes.

    And I'm greedy, I love collecting W's.

I agree we have no one better currently on the roster than him. However, Paying him even close to max money effectively labels him as part of your championship core. The issue though is that he is liability on defense defending all-star level bigs or smalls. Sure if the Rockets can create a team where he is the weakest link, then it is possible to work but that is hard to do if he will making ~$30 million.

The Rockets will not "microwave" a Top 6 WC team with Wood on a max deal 3 years from now. The only way that calculus changes is if one of the Rockets players get into the conversation for best player in the league. But given the youth and rawness of KPJ, Green, and Alps, that will not happen for at least 3-4 years when Wood is basically exiting his prime.

Plus in that best case scenario, all of those 1st/2nd years would looking for huge pay raises as well which would flirt the team with a the luxury tax too soon than is ideal in a championship window. Especially if most of the talent is home grown.

Essentially Wood is a trade asset, either now to get picks or later on in 3-5 years as a filler when trading for a star or rounding out a contending team.

Though if the thought process is that you need someone to carry some mantle, use for publicity, and get the fairweather fans to stick around. It could make sense, but even then you offer something more like ~$20-25 million or for fewer years like 2/team option for 2. Neither of which Wood would take.

Nurk is a $12M expiring so the Tilman might be happy with it.

    Picks are nice but…
They took 4 rookies last year.
They have 2 more picks this year.
    6 first/second year players.

    This is the OLD narrative.

Watch the games, this is no longer the case. Wood actually was improving defensively prior to his injury last season but has taken it to another level THIS season.

If you don't believe the eye test then take a gander at article above generously posted and transcribed by @J.R.

Ya JC has a lot of potential. My hope is that by next year we will have a defined role for him.

It's like a stock moving up hard, where it's time to sell, but some of you just don't get it.

Trade Wood & Gordon at the deadline or sooner. Sell into this. It's time.
