This type of stuff was worse when there were no cell phone and body cameras and the reason why police unions faught tooth and nail against them.

Am I supposed to care about low police moral? I care more about the moral of the doctors and nurses. People who really protect and serve. Don't like being an officer, find a new job. Don't like cops being called killers, quit enabling and protecting those that kill. Get rid of the thin blue line that puts officers above the law. Think your police job is too dangerous get a new job there are plenty that don't get the publicity but are many times more dangerous than being a cop. But above all else... Go back to protecting and serving. Weed out the bad cops and you'll see public perception and job moral improve.
Do you believe that Police perform a needed function in society? The problem in many cities is that too many LEO are quitting. In Minneapolis we've seen about a 20% decrease in the amount of LEO even as while we've seen a 100% increase in murders in the last two years. Obviously Minneapolis has a problem with bad LEO given that Derek Chauvin was part of the MPD. That said a sudden plunge in the numbers of LEO isn't helping things. It's not making MPD a better force more accountable and it certainly isn't making Minneapolis safer.
Yes but the current law enforcement culture in the US is just not compatible with equality amongst different socioeconomic and racial groups. It's deep rooted as can be seen by the voting split for law enforcement personnel which was overwhelmingly Trump. A large percentage of law enforcement have really toxic views on society. We need a drastic reform one WHO we recruit.
I agree there are big problems with LE the problem is how do we make structural reform without making things much more dangerous? Minneapolis has been a test case of this with in June 2020 9 members of the City Council publicly declaring they were going to "Defund the Police" that has turned badly with the Mayor who opposed them on that being reelected, their vague reform measure defeated at the polls, and in the meantime a major increase in crime.
If it was up to me LE reform would be a long process and not rushed. Rather than drastic reorganization of PD"s with cuts in budgets I would add money to buy out LEO who have had patterns of bias against them. I would greatly increase the training and vetting budget for new recruits. I would return to more community policing models with an emphasis on LEO living in the communities they policed. I would even be willing to pay more to make up for high housing costs.
This sounds like the plot of Robocop When the police eventually went on strike and the city burned to the ground by criminals The city turned to defense corporations to create a technology solution for crime which in the long run is the real Solution here . the fallout of the criminals winning is that the small businesses have given up look here at San Jose California Selling trendy Yeezys and Jordans in Cali? Not anymore
Are nurses and doctors putting their lives on the line. You talk that **** till something happens to you and you need a cop. A cop has never done anything to anyone in this thread. Cops acting bad is.s news story but it's rare. They respond to millions of calls in a year
You should care that police have higher morals. Doctors and nurses take the Hypocritical Oath for their morals.
Leaving aside that I once got shook down by an Indonesian LEO. In the US I've been pulled over and had my car searched with no reason given. I was questioned by a plainclothes LEO in my own neighborhood over suspected break ins in garages. His reasoning for questioning me was that I was "walking funny". I fully agree we need LEO and I agree they have a very difficult job. That doesn't mean we just ignore that there are a lot of LEO who aren't doing their jobs well and given the amount of power they have that is a problem.
They are human beings. They will make mistakes you they will have bad days. It's easy to say they should be above some things but it's hard to weed all a holes. That being said we shouldn't project every incident into a systematic issue. You talked about Minneapolis's police chief suing the department and other issues with them. The lawsuit may have been about race but that's an internal problem that you shouldn't project into how the department treats citizens on a day to day basis. The department didn't back the officers in the Floyd death All the police brutality cases we see are are their own individual case. You would be hard pressed to find a situation where a police department had leadership directing civil rights abuses. You mentioned Baltimore' s police department. Baltimore is a very black city and I'm sure it's police department's leadership has a lot of blacks. Baltimore had to deal with some of the worst crime in the country. That's what their problems stem from
Making excuses doesn't help. To paraphrase Chris Rock, sure there are some bad apples or people having bad days, but with some jobs, that just isn't okay. United Airlines doesn't get to have repeated incidents of pilots flying planes into mountains and say those were just a few bad pilots. The rest are all great. Or that those pilots were just having a bad day. Sorry to you or your surviving family members if they just happened to catch a flight with a pilot having a bad day.
