Was this a rhetorical question because most of everything I've posted on here don't lean towards a belief of greatness being easy to obtain.

I don't think he's been in the league long enough producing these shooting numbers to say that that's who he is yet

But I hope you're right. We definitely need shooters

Only time will tell for sure

Steph curry is draft #7, u can only draft at that position if u are a shtty team

more superstar in higher picks can also be a consequence of the confirmation bias ie false belief in higher picks causing higher picks to get more PT, public and refs support and more second chances so they are naturally more prone to developing into superstars

    Wtf r u rambling about
look at this list of names, drafted 1-5
Derrick rose, WB, Love, James harden, john wall, cousins, irving, davis, beal, lillard, embid, russel, porzingas, russell, towns, ingram, brown, tatum, donic, trae young, zion, ja morant, edwards, ball.

yea, u can whiff at any draft position, but u are outright delusional thinking players on this list is found plentifully in the double digit draft range. Most of the players drafted that high is bc they have the talents/potential to blossom into something great. Thinking harden became the way he did because he had public/ref support is stupid as fk.

Superstars are generally found in the lottery, nba history has shown it over and over. Thinking drafting superstar at any draft position has similar chance as the lottery picks is just stupid.

You do realize this is year 3 for Garrison Mathews ?

He shot 41.3% from 3 as a rookie , 38.5% in year two and is shooting 41.5% this season.

If three years is too small a sample size .... how bout the 4 years prior where he shot 35 , 35 , 38 & 41% from 3 in college.

No kidding .... and to think how many people had to blow it for him to land here on a two way contract ..... we're very fortunate they all screwed up.

My hope is that they move House sooner than later which clears a roster spot for Mathews & they can give him a contract similar to Brooks.

He's shooting more than twice as much with the Rockets, getting much more playing time, and starting.

Which means that his legs are more likely to get more tired, defenders are better, and the quality of shots that he's taking are not as good.

He went undrafted and signed with the Wizards and undrafted players generally only play at the end during blowouts. He wasn't getting many minutes, and was playing against the end of the other teams bench.

If I'm wrong and his shooting percentages stay high, I 'll be the first to admit I was wrong about him.

You might want to check your facts .....

    He's taking great shots .....
Players Shooting Dashboard Closest Defender +10 | Stats | NBA.com

18% of his shots occur with no defender within 6 feet.
45.9% of his shots the closest defender is between 4-6 feet.
23% of his shots the closest defender is between 2-4 feet.
0% of his shots come when the defender is closer than 2 feet.

Shooting 64% of your shots with no defender closer than 4 feet ..... those are great shots.

The fact that he was undrafted is irrelevant - He played more minutes than you think playing well over a thousand minutes last year while starting 24 games - averaging 12+ as a rookie , 16 and now 25 per.

If PHX loses tonight, we'll have the largest winning streak in the NBA.

What a time to be alive.

And Just like that, we're out of the top 3.

50/50 chance we get a top 4 pick now.

We have a game Sunday against NOP, we win that, and we're picking 5th, with a 40% chance to end up in the top 4.

This isn't even fun winning against good teams (the first two were tho), its having vets ball out against garbage teams to secure meaningless wins.

On the bright side, the team is now exactly where their point differential says they should be. Time to play the youngins more and trade the vets, we only have this year and next before our picks go to OKC.

It's really time to start Theis again. We really gonna miss out on Jabari Smith just to go get meaningless wins by CWood and EG?

Great post backing up what you're saying.

Typically, players that go to another team and are tasked with generating more of a teams points take more shots and their shot quality goes down. As you've pointed out above that has not occurred with Mathews.

That doesn't mean that he will continue to shoot just as well in the future. Some players numbers become better and some players become worse.

We will see what happens with him.
