http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2004/columns/story?columnist=wojnarowski_adrian&id=1819936 This article pretty much sums up my feelings both on Phil and Red... I always thought Phil got way too much hype, good as he is, and should go down in history as "the great manager of personalities, the great stabilizer on turbulent teams" (wojnarowski). Auerbach, in my mind, is certainly the greatest basketball mind there ever was (in the NBA, anyway... otherwise supporters of John Wooden might have something to say), although perhaps his coaching skills were overshadowed by his GMing skills. Personally, I'd award best coach to Alex Hannum, the only coach to beat the Celtics in their remarkable run of 11 in 13 years... Hannum took those other two: with the Hawks and Bob Pettit in '58 and with the Sixers and Wilt in '67. Thoughts? I'll post a poll just because, but feel free to ignore it.
