Of all the things that happened, you are focused on blaming Antifa and the cops. Myrtle Lee Nelson would be disappointed.

 

I think anyone who was stupid enough to walk in was stupid and naive enough to be prosecuted. I would never go to a protest, much less enter any building; much less the Capitol.

But you need to ask yourself why it was so easily penetrable? Especially when they were warned something could happen?

Most times being warned means having extra personnel there. That was done. It doesn't mean taking steps to stop crowds armed and willing to use their weapons against the police crush them, against buildings, go with the intent to kill the Vice President, and Nanci Pelosi, etc.

I agree they should have been better prepared but it isn't odd that they weren't prepared for the insurrection that happened. That hadn't happened in recent times. Had Trump not delayed the National Guard deployment, it might have been different.

As far as Antifa, we know the video you sent trying to prop up that idea wasn't credible. Do you have other evidence?

 

Also why the Capitol was so easily penetrated. The investigations are bringing up evidence that members of Capitol PD including commanders were sympathetic to the Jan. 6th rioters and that they may have delayed or downgraded their response out of that sympathy.

Once again credible facts point to Trump delaying any response to quell the insurrection he instigated.

So you agree that he didn't bring the zip ties in. He picked them up, from the video it looks like they are on the floor, but they could be on a table or cabinet I suppose. He clearly never used them. The fact that he said he wanted some is not especially meaningful to me, as we know he picked them up. It sounds like his mother was also counselling taking the zip ties so they would not be used by someone else ("get 'em out of their hand (sic)"). The fact that Munchel owns weapons that were found in his gun safe at his home is not especially concerning to me. Millions of Americans own weapons. Munchel was in lawful possession of those weapons and was storing them in a responsible manner.

Actually, I have consistently called it a riot. I don't think any of the Congress members were ever in real danger, but it certainly was not a harmless tour through the Capitol. You may have me confused with someone else.

Actually, he followed his mother through an open door right past an officer that didn't even tell him not to enter. I don't know if I would call that breaking into the Capitol. I certainly wouldn't call it violent entry, as he has been charged with (though sometimes the common name of statutes doesn't match up with the elements, so that could be misleading). All that has even been alleged factually by the government is he walked around the Capitol building with a taser in a holster on his hip and took some zip ties that the Capitol Police left on a cabinet. Didn't break anything or assault anyone or conspire with anyone. He said he wanted the gavel in the Senate chamber, but made no effort to actually steal it, just made the comment.

None of these people were in the right. They should be punished for what they actually did though, in line with the way other rioters are punished, not based on the fantasy that they were some sort of armed rebellion that was trying to take over the government and kill the vice president.

 

Just watched Four Hours at the Capital on HBO Max.

I’m very proud of how all the LOEs conducted themselves. I think they absolutely made the correct decision to restrain from using deadly force (except in one incident) and slowly conceding ground to the rioters. I think the officer who did shoot Ashley Babbit used poor judgment. That decision could have lost a lot more people their lives and it wasn’t necessary. The conscious decision not to escalate violence to that degree by every other LOE officer is a credit to them.

Happy to let those morons occupy the physical premises of the Capitol. Just preserve life. Go arrest the morons later.

Storming the capitol trying to execute political leaders is not okay. These people should have been shot.

I wouldn't feel bad if they got shot inside the capitol building but I'm not going as far as wanting them to get shot.

Police brutality is treacherous to navigate. On one hand I want law enforcement to feel safe but I also want that safety to be doubled with the people they've sworn to protect.

I'm not going to pretend their restraint would be the same if the crowd were not mostly old white fatties but they did show restraint despite being overwhelmed. Maybe if they were prepared more gas and bean bags would be fired upon them. Who really knows.

I do think it's ironic that the Con narrative about The Government, who conspires to go "after them" or Congress, that plots their eventual destruction, was so naive and gullible not to have rows of armed soldiers for their law makers or the 2nd in line to the presidency.

This is like 1800s level of innocence where presidents got shot out in the open in broad daylight.

We should be thankful we aren't near police state levels of fear and paranoia, though the first test won't be our last
