This movie just came out on DVD for anyone that's curious. It's basically about Brazilian youth gangs in a poor slum of Rio De Janiero, set in the 1960's-70's (subtitled in Portugese). It is one of the best movies of the year IMO, albeit a bit graphic in content. Anyone else seen it? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/CityofGod-1119797/
I meant to say that the movie is subtitled in English, and that the actors speak Portugese, although this was probably obvious.
Man I watched that movie last night. A very different movie. It's hard to believe life could sink so low in all aspects. Sure it was a true story but there had to be some serious exaggerations. I gotta admit, Knockout Ned was pretty cool though.
Man, I think I saw it a year and a half ago. It's one of those epic movies where you see it and just can't stop thinking about it for at least a couple days. I was totally enthralled in it. It kind of has a similar feel as American History X, but much better in my opinion. This is an example of a movie where the filmakers' talent matches their ambition. Even the slow parts are done so stylistically you never lose interest. FOUR STARS
As one of my rare non-Rockets post -- I thought this was the best movie released last year. Your mileage may vary. Some may find it too violent or edgy.
