A top pick is only a burden when you draft a bad player with the pick. When you pick a good player with the pick, it goes a long way to rebuilding your team. Right now, there's not a franchise player on the team, so the fastest way to get one would be to tank this year while you are trying to shed big contract guys like Wall. The absolute worst thing you could do would be to keep scrubs like Wall, Green, and Theis on the bench and end up in the middle of the pack with a garbage pick on a team that is non-competitive.

This should be clearly Wood and KPJ’s team, and the guard rotation should be KPJ + EGO/Mathews/Armony for shooting/spacing. what’s clearly best for the team is that Wall, Green, and DJ Augustine are not in the guard rotation for now, but there is too many bulshit non-basketball agendas for that to happen. I’m in minority here in that I was OK with Wall’s first year, and was hoping he’d make another major step towards his old self. I mean the guy is not old, and he was awesome a few years back, before all the setbacks. Now however, he hasn’t made any progress since last year, and may have regressed… He’s had another loooooong layoff, he didn’t play at the end of last year, then there was all this "agreement" bulshit, and now reportedly he’s not even in shape. Why would a healthy organization and a strong coach would want to play this guy in this particular moment? The answer is Rockets are weak and insecure, they care about how they are perceived, they care about all the “Free John Wall” noise. I get that they are fighting the bad reputation left from Morley’s ham-handed, zero-EQ antics, but at some point you have to filter all the noise and care about what kind of basketball product you’re putting out there. Then there is the Jalen Green issue, who should have never been a starter to begin with. He’s such a weakling, no defense, no box outs, dying on screens, just some flashes of offensive talent now and then… If you are running an NBA team, you don’t start guys like that: a Globetrotter wannabe whose highlights are once every couple of games… But no chance Rockets will sit him now, the way they are overpromoting him ad naseum for his gender-fluid/teen-idol/Instagram-celebrity extracurriculars. IMO the way they enabled and entitled him will only end-up hurting the kid… If it was up to basketball reasons neither Wall nor Greenshould be sniffing playing time: get in shape, hone your craft in the gym and wait for an opening (EGo’s inevitable trade/injury or else…). Then, when opportunity opens let’s see if these two guys are ready to step-in and help the team. Of course this will not be happening, because this organization does not care about basketball competitiveness, that has been clear so far.
