I really don’t understand how they still have valuable prospects left but I do see them getting Olsen and Bassitt or Manea in a deal. I would love for the Astros to get Olson since you could play him at 1st and corner OF to keep other guys fresh.
Would love that. Great all-around bat, lots of pop and good contact and average. And of course it would mean the Yankees don't get him.
There has been more Mets related leaks than any other team during this frenzy... indicating either somebody there talks way too much, or agents are merely using Cohen and the inexperienced ownership/FO as leverage.
Cohen does have a track record of not being able to keep his mouth shut so it could definitely be him leaking stuff out.
I hope Seager signs a big deal with the Rangers just to spurn the Dodgers and Yankees. And too make the Rangers three best players, shortstops.
If I were Correa’s agents I would be using this deal as a talking point. If a top player is worth $43M/yr, a $200M/5yr starting point followed by adding years at a lower AAV makes a lot of sense.
10M of that was probably just to get him to the east coast. But I am happy to see any big acquisition go to teams that don't directly impact the Astros.
Trying to win. I really liked the Escobar and Canha moves. The Scherzer deal is a significant overpay, likely by $30-40M. What’s funny is it’s only their 3rd worst contract (after Lindor and Cano).
Since it’s only 3 years I actually don’t think it’s a bad contract for the Mets. It could very well turn out to be, but if he stays healthy for the majority of that contract then it’s likely worth it for them.
The scherzer deal doesn't really bother me to be honest. It is short (3 years), he has finished in the top 5 for Cy Young voting 8 of the last 9 years with the COVID shortened season being the one exception.... and he was really dominant last year with a WHIP well under 1.
