I’m a huge Chris Cornell fan. I’m also a big fan of Bond, and although hard to pick a favorite, Casino Royale is certainly at the top. Anyhoo, not too long after Chris passed, I found myself in London with the family, and my wife set us up with a private tour guide that had been highly recommended by one of our friends. My wife has a company HQ there, so we had all been there before several times and wanted to see some of the more obscure tourist attractions. Not sure how obscure this was, but apparently the military band for the changing of the guard practices outside of their barracks prior to each ceremony, so she took us by there. There’s people lined up along the fence to listen, but not tons, so we got a nice spot pretty close to the band. They opened with a damn good rendition of You Know My Name. To be in London—the home of Bond—and to hear my favorite theme song from a favorite artist to probably my favorite Bond movie…….man…..I thought that band was playing just for me.
My first Bond movie was For Your Eyes Only. Although I still recall us as kids giggling at the Octopussy posters.
That's a great story. I lived in London for a bit in the 90s. Was there when we heard Kobain died. Fun place.
I love this. Never heard it. This is the best Bond song. I owe you a gift card. Hard 2nd. Johnny Cash version of Thunderball
And I'm thinkin' I'll sideline for my 50th with doing the cover of Chris Cornell's You Know My Name. You Know My Name...
