I've seen government pay vs. private sector pay... believe me... the tax dollars aren't wasted on the employees. :(

Youd be suprised, some parts of the government pay well. My best friend is an ATF Agent and after putting in 4 years, he is at a 6 figure salary.

I agree. I'd rather work 4 10's instead of the 5 10's I'm working now. :D Seriously, I love this job. A permanent position where I get paid hourly and get time-and-a-half for OT... unheard of in IT.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I needed to take a day off to head down to San Antonio, so they let me work 4 10's and get Friday off. Working 4 10's is really not too bad. Another guy I work with who did the same thing that week said he couldn't do it. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I like that 3-day weekend. Especially when 1 day is a weekday where everybody else is at work and every store is open "normal" hours. No weekend rush to stores to buy stuff that you couldn't during the week.

Don't they have the potential to get shot at? :D

Seriously, I'm sure there are exceptions, but a lot of the salaries I saw for government positions were WAY lower.

Although I was surprised when my mailman told me he made $45k. Although not a ton of money, I was actually shocked it was that high. Some of them probably deserve more.

Thats true. His wife though, works for the INS, which is normally not have an imminent health risk. She has been there 6 years and also makes close to 6 figures.

Makes me wonder why Im always buying dinner for them when we go out.............

I guess it just depends on what sector you work in.

I much prefer 4 10's. When school starts back up I'll be working 6 12's so I have to enjoy the little time off I get now.

    Does the 4 10's include lunch or is that 4 10's + 4 1's for lunch.

I'm trying to figure out exactly how much time is spent in the office. B/c if its 11 hours a day (counting lunch), then I couldn't do it. I struggle to get through 8 hours + 1 hour lunch!

I used to have a 4/10. It was great. Yes, it made for a long workday but having a day off every week was priceless. There are lots of things you can't do on the weekend that you can do on your day off.

As soon as I get my new position, I'm going to ask for it again.

I'll tell you what i heard a corporate trainer tell a guy at Apple once.

"You WORK 4 days a week, we pay you for 40 hours. We don't pay you to lunch..."

kid says "So we have to be here, like, 11 hours?"

    Corporate Squarepants "uh, ya"

and yes, he used "lunch" as a verb

I wish we could do 4-10's. I work out during lunch so it breaks up the day really well. I dont know why they dont let us since most of the time we dont do crap.

I worked in this one lab at Baylor College of Medicine and it was great. Everybody came in at 9, left at 5, and took an hour for lunch anyway. So we were really only working 35 hours a week. :D

Now, before you all rush out and get jobs there, it's a good place to work, but all the labs aren't that generous...

Well it's a 40 hour week, so since most people don't get paid for lunch, it's staying at work 11 hours a day for 4 days. In other words 44 to get 40.

It's no big deal to me since I spend 10-11 hours minimum at work anyway.

Well it looks as though I may not be trying out for the dance team. I read that you could not have danced in a topless bar or you would be disqualified. Although I have never danced in a topless club or anything like it before, I did pose for Playboy a couple of years ago. I have to check and see if that would matter to the organization or not. Oh well..... It sounded like fun.:( :( :(

Oski2005.. wasnt sure where he was jumping at .. thats cool

he was on larry king live last night with barbara.. and she said something about the military people he jumps with won't let anything happen to him.... i was thinking.. that must be some pressure.. its like.. former president bush is jumping out of a plane.. dont let anything happen to him..

Clearly he knows how to jump and all.. I've never gone sky diving.. paragliding once and the landing seemed a little rough...

i guess the major concern would be the landing for someone that is 80... if you have bad knees or something.... my first reaction was.. wow we already lost reagan this week... please be careful bush.... but he has all the experience etc apparently...

I think sky diving would be fun.. maybe i'll try it sometime in the next few years.. while im single and all... dont think i'd want to do after i was married with a family or something
