I'm not a big corn fan either, except if its that corn mixed with mayonaise and seasoning that is sold at some taco stands. I forget the name of it.

Corn is the reason for America's weight problem. At least it has a lot to do with it. Everything is made with cornstarch, corn oil or some product, not mention the corn fed beef and other meets. Seriously. I saw a Night Line special once on these guys, I forget what occupation they were in, but they were trying to petition Congress to stop subsidizing corn farmers back in the seventies because they knew the problems it would lead to down the road, and it turns out they may have been right. I think they said corn is the largest subsidized crop in America.

    Corn is the devil.

    Where's that barfing smiley?

When I was a kid and visited India with my parents, all they ever made was mutton. I was forced to sit there and drink my boiled water while everyone chowed down on mutton and I waited for the dessert to be served.

I cannot stand dishes that have meat cooked together with fruit.

My Dad makes a mean stuffed cabbage but he mixes freaking raisins in with the ground beef or ground turkey, and I spend dinnertime picking them little suckers out of there.

Two other foods I dislike are rock cornish game hens and brussel sprouts.

I dont know about raisins in stuffed cabbage but I have several sauces, generally for pork, that are awesome.

    Apple Brandy Cream sauce
    Raspberry Port wine sauce
    Blueberry Merlot sauce

Those aren't any problem with me. I don't like it when meat and fruit are cooked together. Putting a sauce that has fruit in it on top of meat is OK. Weird, eh? I guess I am what I am....a FREAK!!!:D

    MAYONNAISE.

There's something wrong with something so white and so gooey being considered a food.

Oh, and marshmellows...ever since that "Chubby Bunny" game, I can't eat another one without wanting to puke all over myself. Plus, they too are white and gooey. I cannot stress this point enough...

    Anything from the sea
    Most cooked vegetables
    Any soup or stew
Any meat cooked with wet heat (like stewing or braising or au vin)
Anything with cheese in it (though cheese itself is fine; well semi-soft cheeses made from cow's milk anyway)
    Chocolate with peanuts in it
Anything with processed tomatoes (whether cooked, pureed, canned or whatever -- but fresh, raw tomatoes are great)
Anything with excessive mixing, like a stir-fry, especially if I'm not the one doing the mixing.
Most frozen savory things, like a microwavable dinner, or frozen green beans.
Most foods of low quality, like fast food or single-A eggs (I can eat single-A eggs, but it gives me an unsettled feeling)
Unusual meats, like lamb or goat
Hard liquor (straight; I can cook with it) or mixed drinks
Most ethnic foods (usually due to the mixing rule)
    Condiments and dressings (except vinaegrette)

There are more; some things I can't think of and some that are too minor to mention. But, I've already eliminated most of the culinary world as it is, so I'll stop the list here. For now.

I can not be in the same room as people eating Indian or Thai food. I find them utterly disgusting. It's like eating a smelly armpit.

JV also doesn't eat any fungi because they are from the fifth kingdom.
Nor does heat eat canned vegetables b/c fresh tastes better.

    My own list:
    Low quality foods such as:
    Frozen dinners
    Fast food
    Chain restaurant food
    most processed foods
"American" cheese or any cheese that comes presliced
    Any presliced deli meats
    cheap beer, wine or liquor
The further away from being made "from scratch" a food is, the less I appreciate it. Except high quality chocolate, I am not about to go roast my own cocoa beans - but I've thought about it.

Mayo... that's a good one too.

Oh yeah, and I've given up all alcoholic beverages too. They do nothing for me anymore. I get no enjoyment from imbibing, even occaisionally.

You know what, to make it easier the following is a list of foods that I do like and EXCLUSIVELY eat:

all fruits, all vegetables, mustard, cereal (+milk), vegetarian lean cuisine entrees and pizzas, and ANYTHING SWEET (cookies, cakes, pies, breads, brownies, ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, etc.)

    That's it, that's the list.

KRS-One has a song about meat on his album "Edutainment" in which he claims that meat is just as addictive as any drug because of the drugs animals are pumped up with before they are slaughtered.

For those of you who gave up meat after being a regular meat eater, how hard was it to give up? When I first heard the song I thought he was a little over the top but then I started thinking about how hard it would be to give up meat completely and personally I think I could give up any other general food group easier than I could give up meat. Something about this thread made me think of that.

As a child, I used to be a diehard meat eater. My mom would have to make special meals for me b/c I refused to eat the Indian vegetarian food she made for the rest of the family. Every single "special meal" she made me consisted of burgers, chicken, fish or plain old ground beef mixed in something.

I became a vegetarian 4 years ago and it was pretty damn easy. I did it initially for health reasons and it was really easy (b/c I was really motivated to lose weight). Now when I see people eating meat, cooking meat, or hell walking down the meat aisle of the grocery store, I am instantly repulsed.

I don't think I could ever go back. That says a lot when you consider my upbringing.
